They implemented the countdown feature for us, use it.
Please understand how much damage dealer classes hate this Ready Check pop-up when they're preparing for their opener.

And then a tank unleashes a 10 second countdown out of nowhere while you're a Ninja...
Ehm..what? Ready check and countdown are not the same. A ready check asks if I'm there and ready, a countdown just says when the tank will pull, ready or not.
It's a substitute for the user-made countdown macros, not to find out if everyone is ready. If my cooldowns still take 30 seconds, I'm not ready, even if the tank tells me he will start in 5 seconds..
If I had to quickly afk for a sec, or am still watching the cutscene, or whatever, I'm not ready, and just by saying "I'll start in 5 seconds" will not tell the tank that I WILL get locked out of the fight.
But countdown doesn't check if anyone's ready. I always do a Ready Check before each pull when I raid and my pull macro starts the second the last person hits 'Ready.'
For casual content, who really cares?
I don't know what kind of crappy NINs you play with, but every NIN worth their salt has always said to me they want 20+ sec pull so they can open with Suiton. MNKs also want to prepare their stance and from zero that takes at least 3 GCDs.

Please use ready check, then start your countdown.
Who needs 20+ seconds to cast Suiton? Please send them back to the ninja school.
Optimal ninja countdown is 23 seconds to apply huton and have a suiton ready for the start.
