Yes, wonderful idea. Let us carry several gear sets for all our classes and engage in gentlemany blinking, because nothing screams strategy and skill more than being able to set up a macro to switch your gear set so your cure heals 5% more!

Lets just cry about sentinel and ifrit instead guys!
I liked the gear swap. All the pple around me did it and all around me was HNM endgame so it was pretty much second nature. Blinking was the least of concerns. >.>
5%? hell ya! Even 2-3% made a diff. of millions of gil in FFXI (speed belt anyone?) at least back in the golden days of XI pre-abyss.
FFXIV Since Sep. 2010: Selbina/Ridill/Excalibur (Mergers)
Currently moved to Leviathan
I remember the Alpha days when even breathing lagged you
God forbid i have to buy more gear.
i agree with op, there was a thread on this long time ago. feels like a dead horse, too many people against it and reality is it's only for one reason cause they too lazy to gear that many pieces of gear. gear swaps = more slots of gear, it's multiple rings, multiple bodies and pieces for just one class. it makes farming nm's and doing dungeon worth doing. and worth doing for multiple classes knowing u will use these gears. i already don't care bout gearing more ifrit, i do it cause theres nothing else to do, but reality is i can care less about it cause se not making a game worth caring about.
as for the excuses there all the same ones ..blinking lol, it's 2012, make it not blink. gw2 weapon swaps are instant and so can this games.
don't want to gear up that much gear, well don't
space in inventory, mannequins are on the way, give us more space.
it might of been a mistake in ffxi but it was a great one that made the game worth spending 5years playing.

While I do wholeheartedly miss gear swaps (the concept behind being able to maximize every single number was truly the core of FFXI, it was a very statistical game almost like back in pencil and paper days) but materia already destroyed that aspect of FFXIV. Materia and its requirements along with the already very large stat pools makes any kind of statistical rational on XIV pretty marginal.
Stats in XIV are more of "well all this mess tacts onto some other formula to get a big jumble of mess" as opposed to XI where 1 STR could be concretely related to your weapon skill damage, your min/max, etc. Not that stacking stats on XIV doesn't matter, but with materia being so strong (being able to put anything from STR+1 to STR+50 on a single item) the difference between having STR+12 or STR+15 doesn't really matter anymore. One of the driving factors in XI was numbers, small finite numbers. Your base STR was going to be 72, adding even 1 point of STR would give <this much> increase. Gear swaps just don't really have a place in a game where you can overload whatever you want in piles and piles of <stat>.
In otherwords, do you really need to swap to WS gear that gives an extra 30 STR when your STR and Attack are already 300 and 700 respectively and those numbers just get watered down in some vague calculation? Kinda makes me sad to lose that impact of 1 or 2 points in any given stat but if it makes a player's skill more important than their gear well then I guess it's alright. The lazy people get their way lol.
I am against it and i still have multiple sets of gears especially on my DoM. I just prefer to gearswap before the battle instead of mid-battle. But, alas apparently that made me a lazy player.i agree with op, there was a thread on this long time ago. feels like a dead horse, too many people against it and reality is it's only for one reason cause they too lazy to gear that many pieces of gear. gear swaps = more slots of gear, it's multiple rings, multiple bodies and pieces for just one class. it makes farming nm's and doing dungeon worth doing. and worth doing for multiple classes knowing u will use these gears. i already don't care bout gearing more ifrit, i do it cause theres nothing else to do, but reality is i can care less about it cause se not making a game worth caring about.
no the laziness is in worrying about what others say about u'r gear, or not wanting to gather multiple sets for different endgame or fights. then using that worry to rule out a very cool system that kept people interested in gearing up there main class. but also gear becoming useless and another set taking it's place also takes it's place in this to work. though i still wouldn't mind this, i am lazy in the thought that my gear would be replaced by time i get them.
I had no choice but to use that method in ffxi to maximize my abilities. I don't want it here in ffxiv.
