From simulated housing wards and actual "neighborhoods" over purely instanced housing, from making interiors of houses (which are technically instances) spatially realistic to their exterior correspondent positions, these almost "wasteful" insisting of plainness, normal-ness, are actually core ideals of the game's design. Even by observations of the winners from past interior furnishing contests, the best received entries (officially) are not the ones most original, or flamboyant, or creative, but the ones which look like they could almost have been "canon", actual houses of people living in Eorzea. Just nice, plain, and generally nice. Thus SE would never allow a feature which would undoubtedly cause more harm than good to this cohesion of immersion, and that is why using furniture irregularly and "non-realistically" like making weird towers and stacking them is not very encouraged, and thus a feature enabling that is not a priority. I am sorry.

Japanese culture places great emphasis on order, cohesion, and it would just be natural for this to be reflected in the philosophies of their cultural products. While I can understand you made your suggestion on best intentions and sincere hope of improvement for the game, I personally think the current housing system already allows for elegant and refined decoration of a house, and while I cannot dictate how other players would like to play their game, it would still be better that a feature is only made playable after it has been better designed to be as polished, graceful, and positively an improvement for the game before simply introducing it for the sake of being introduced.

Thus I hope you will continue to support FFXIV housing with the enthusiasm and passion that all who would like to see it improved, do. As I said, a feature like this is not impossible, just not yet ready to be released as is. Other features and ideas for improvement are still being considered and their possibilities explored ... perhaps in the future, in some other form, your wish may come true ^^
With all due respect, I honestly don't understand what you're getting at. How is attempting to put something on top of a flat surface breaking immersion? I'm sincerely curious about your perspective on interior designs. If you're talking about some crazy, over-the-top design, just limit stacking to two (or three) layers, which while difficult, should be possible coding wise. (It really depends on the coding structure.)

^ this. Pretty much the reason why I created this thread.

Er, I necro'd this thread (for you) because I actually thought you have a valid point, but one which will (unfortunately) unlikely to be taken into account and utilized; not because your point is invalid, but because of the condescending reasons I listed (which are beyond your control), and offered my condolences as well as support for your continued passion in housing?

I mean yes, that will obviously come out a bit weird. But my reasons have not changed. Also, on my perspective on interior design, have you ever tried putting a piano on a tea-table? I'd imagine the tea-table will collapse from the weight. You don't need 3 layers of piano stacking for it to count as "crazy, over-the-top" in that case.

I'm sure that people appreciate the necro because it is a feature people want, but feel like you're really reaching here and putting words in the devs "mouth" which actually kind of comes off insulting and condescending. It's a bit ironic.

Did you not mention earlier in your post that it was just merely your opinion? Now you're arguing it like you have evidence that this is actually the developer standpoint. It could be they just didn't have foresight and may take things into account when they have more patches that are housing related?

Do you know that you can already put a fish tank that's a whole lot larger and heavier (I think) than the piano on the tea-table in-game? You entire argument is already out the window before it even begin in the first place.

    Yes please!

    I'm currently trying to utilize the stages to give my personal cottage the feeling of different "levels" but the fact that there is so little I can actually put on top of it is real sad. ;.;

I didn't come here to argue nor do I have any facts from the devs. Nowhere in my texts do I pretend to speak for the devs or officially represent their standpoint. I would like to state again that what I note is from my observations, based on specific reasons, for which I listed respectively. Even if my "guessed" facts may be no better than "no facts", I believe there is some logic in what I said. Thus I would rather we discuss in points and logic, instead of personal aggression. The first writing was excessively resembling an "official" tone. And it was a joke. It would have remained a joke had you not attempted to reply in a passive-aggressive tone, likely to prompt more passive-aggressive responses. Even if it was not a joke, the devs do not need people to defend them from "imposters" or "attackers". There are forum moderators for that. The devs can do what they want, when they are ready and when the feature is polished and well-thought out enough. Excessive argument here though, will not help with that, in any way. In fact, likely everything we have said and will ever say here, but amounts to a footnote in what the devs have already considered. I never had the illusion that what we are talking about is "significant", but I do try to engage with it "seriously".

I remember a very old thread (2015) wanting a "play dead" emote, and now we actually have one. But what that thread was not able to reach a conclusion of, was that in Japanese culture (or possibly a Eastern culture thing in general), "death" is not to be treated lightly. Such that even sleeping in a position as if you were dead, or in a position resembling the position one takes when placed in a coffin, is a big no-no. Thus, the in-game play dead animation is slightly, just ever slightly, differing from our actual death animations. And there is a bit of life to it yet. And it was better for that. And thank god the devs were able to put thought of that level into it, so we could have a polished and positive feature, if a feature at all.

So my point is, 'stacking' may come, just not in an unpolished, risk of net-negative way. And as you mentioned too, further "future-proofing" the future will require much contemplation as well. So, while the devs could just simply remove the stack limitation coding, they will not, and they "can not". "Officially" asking for a feature without consideration to the many aspects which must be designed for, considered for, and carefully thought out for, is perhaps in itself an "insult to the devs", ahem. So please, debate is fine. But do not argue. And please do not take this personally, it is but a comparison of telling me to read my own post for respect, to perhaps reading your own initial post as well. We all get excited with thoughts and passion for this game, and that is fine. You may also noticed that my initial post did not attack you in any way, it was but "condescending". If you took that as an insult I am sorry, and I can understand. And if you do not want me to post in this thread anymore that is fine too, as I said, all we say here is but a footnote in the grand scheme of things, and if this thread is no longer to my interest I will naturally stop posting in it as well.

Unless you are actually Japanese it's probably best that you stop using "but it's Japanese culture" as a reason things shouldn't be added into the game.

Then please stop posting paragraphs of text to continue arguing, otherwise you're being hypocritical.

You can just simply apologize for giving the wrong impression and move on.

I also noticed that the Easter egg floor Lamp lacks the tabletop attribute. It's a shame. Feels like a lot of the ARR items are the biggest offenders for this

Passive aggressive? Probably. Have you perhaps though that it might have something to do with your condensing attitude and illogical points? Resembling an "official" tone? Sounds closer to arrogance to me, but perhaps I'm just not used to your style of writing.

As for logical, don't make me laugh. There are only two possible outcomes with regards to my suggestion (placing object A on object B). If object A is smaller/lighter than object B, it is (for the most part) physically feasible and hence logical to put A on B, you know, like how we usually do things in the real world. However, this is currently impossible in-game due to whatever reasons, be it coding limitations, developer choice, lack of foresight or simply because they haven't got the time to get back to updating it. This is what my request is about, asking for something that is physically feasible and logical to be included into the game. The second outcome is what you brought up; if object A is larger/heavier than object B, this wouldn't be possible psychically speaking since object B is expected to break under the weight of A. However, as I've mentioned, this illogical outcome is already included in the game (case in point, tier 3/4 aquarium. To be fair, I'm all good with this to be in-game since it's resource taxing to calculate the area/volume of two furniture just to perform this "reality check" and having some bits of "illogical" stuff in a fantasy game open up for creativity in renovating.)

Therefore, I reach a conclusion whereby your debating point is invalid. Immersion-breaking from a logical action that is happening in the real world on a daily basis, is this meant to be another joke of yours? (I've already pointed out the illogical action is already an option in-game)

Lastly, if you don't want to start an argument then perhaps you should stop with that provoking tone of yours when you reply. Then again, it might just be me being over-sensitive. Perhaps you should take your own suggestion for the sake of keeping the thread clean?

Posting this here since this thread was already going. >_> I just want to actually place instruments on the stage, like the description implies that should already be done. Considering the instruments came out first, it wouldn't surprise me that this was an oversight after stages were made into actual items. I just want a classy looking bar in the mansion, and nothing says class more than alcohol with a full band playing.
