[dev1206] Update/expand the UI with pop-up menus, please.

Something that I hope catches the Devs attention and maybe even be put into consideration.

Ever since 2.0 was announced and its new over-hauled and enhanced UI, I've been keeping my hopes up that the dev-team's vision will be great but there's an aspect that I'd love to see in the UI that I don't think they're considering. (Yoshi likes the Action bar too much!)

So I made a thread about it!

    Pop-up menus.

After the last battle reform info came out people started complaining about the action bar, un-removable actions and of course the issue that maybe one day 3 action lines won't be enough to contain the main class's abilities once the level cap changes.

Not to mention old complaints like how it takes more steps than it should to engage an enemy, needing to open the main menu for most of you actions like synthing, returning to HP when you're dead, trading items and soon using abilities that you don't want on the action bar but still might want to use occasionally.

Examples of this I want to see:

*A menu that pops up when you target anything, that includes magic, trade, check, browse, use items and abilities (Which I'd love to be split into weapon attacks and regular abilities but that's an issue for later). the first and default action changes depending on your target: Attack for enemies. talk for NPCs and maybe "activate" for levers, buttons and so on.

*Extra options for DoL/DoH classes for the previous menu, add Synth, fish, mine, repair etc. and miscs when targeting yourself like calling your mount, returning to home point and and so on.

*A return to Home point Yes/No and accept Raise Yes/No menus when you die.

*An accept party/linkshell/(free company?) Yes/No menu when those happen.

*A special menu for when you're on a mount, maybe invite a person to ride with you (shared mounts were mentioned in the 2.0 PDFs) the obvious dismount button and whatever else special ability your mount could have like maybe fly?.

I could go on but I think I got the point across.

This "system" is meant to work hand-in-hand with the action bar and macros system to give us and the devs more room to work with when it comes to battle/gathering classes, and reduces the action bar clutter, and remove the extra unnecessary steps we all have to take to do alot of the basic simple actions in game.

This isn't a revolutionary concept, but it makes so much sense and I don't see any down side to implementing it, which I'd love to see before or in 2.0

Plus it can't hurt to bring it up again incase it was mentioned/requested before.

P.S> There's a great chance that I chose an inappropriate tag for this topic.

I hate to do this to you people but I'm really interested in getting an idea of how many people are with me on this topic, so like this post if you're for adding more pop up menus to the UI.

Like this post if you think I'm a hack and that pop-up menus are relics that should stay in the past.

Why is everyone against an action bar...

Then you say "pop up menu and macros are great"... wtf macro bar is the same as an action bar it just hides itself unless you hold the key and 2.0 will let you put macros on your action bar.

It just looks tacky having 3-5 rows of ability plastered on your window, as well as unnecessary clutter. This is the one thing that Tera did well when it comes to controller configurations, they actually give you a controller UI which isn't at all in the way.

Also: They stated they'll add pop-up menus to certain things along with the mouse-over menu additions, I think the one reason it wasn't added to begin with was because..surprise people complain about having to use menus at all.

I didn't get around to playing TERA so I can't comment on the UI.

As far as controllers go, I agree that controller (ps3 when it's out) and PC users could (should) have seperate UI's and I believe they are going to do this.

As for myself, I don't use a controller... I'm playing the game on PC and prefer the mouse and keyboard. I know a lot of people do use controllers though, and they prefer that method. For myself, action bar is much more convenient than a popup menu would be.

I can def see how a popup menu would be more useful for someone on a controller... but don't try to have them eliminate the action bar, just suggest they work on another UI for controller users.

note: still groggy from waking up.. hope this is understandable
