Main Quests and FC Questions

Hello,

I played my free trial a several months ago and decided against buying the full game because I didn't think I could dedicate the time needed to fully enjoy a pay to play mmo despite really liking it. Then the sale happened and I got the base game.

My problem: I am very lost. it's been a while and I don't know what main quest I am on. Is there any way to find out where I am in the main quest? I don't have anything active and I don't see any flaming quest givers anywhere. I am lvl 17.

I don't really understand Free Companies. I got an invite like every day I played until I finally accepted one. What are the benefits of being in one? What is the main point of being in one? Should I stay in the random one I joined or find a new one that is more specific to my play-style/ age group/ interests?

In your quest journal, there's a button at the top to make it show completed quests rather than your current ones. Go to "Completed" quests, then I think it's a drop-down selection for categories to show "Main Scenario Quests", and scroll down to see which was the last one you finished. If you let us know where you left off, we can point you to where the next one picks up.

(One common place many people lose track of their main quests around this level is after the Envoy quest that opens up access to the other cities. If your last completed quest was "The Gridanian Envoy", "The Lominsan Envoy" or "The Ul'dahn Envoy", then the next one you want to pick up is "Call of the Sea" which you can pick up from Bartholomew in the Royal Promenade area (upstairs) of Uldah's Steps of Thal if you'd started in either Gridania or Limsa Lominsa, or from a Serpent Officer in Old Gridania if you'd started in Ul'dah.)


As for Free Companies, there are some direct benefits, like buffs that can be set for everyone in the FC, but the primary purpose is a group of people to socialize together and make friends with, so if you find the group you're with aren't interested in what you are, it's worth trying to find a FC that will be a better fit. A randomly selected group may or may not be friendly and sociable, or eager to run content together with you. If you like them, stick with it, and if you don't, then look elsewhere.

Thank you for your help. I think that quest is complete so it's either the one after it i'm looking for or another one shortly after. When I am back on this afternoon I will check my completed quests and I should be able to find where to go from there.
