    attack power: is it useless?

I recently hit lv 50 as a lnc to find that my attack power is actually lower than what my arc has (498 compared to 519) yet, my lnc does more damage. A Hart Guisarme has 135 damage, an Ul'dahn Longbow with cobalt arrows equal up to 146. (arc should deal more damage theoretically even if attack power wasn't a factor)

Now I have been told that attack power does not affect ranged damage, but my source wasn't very detailed about the details. I also find it hard to believe, since attack power as a weapon stat is almost always found on bows, and why would the devs give archers a stat that is completely useless to them?

I've tried looking it up on Lodestone and several other sites, but all of them seem to be out of date, or lacking the information completely. If someone knows more about the subject, I'd love to hear about it.

What about LNC's STR vs. ARC's DEX?

Generally it is assumed that STR:Attack has 2:3 ratio. In ARC's case it might be DEX:Attack, as it has been demonstrated that DEX affects ranged attack damage.

I heard about that as well, but that was not what I was asking, What does attack power do, and does it actually do anything for arc? Don't answer if you don't know.

Your attack power stat, along with your strength stat and weapon damage stat, is what determines your damage against a mob. It gets more complicated since archer calculates damage a little differently. Apparently for archer, dexterity also is a factor in how much damage you do.

How do you figure that one should out damage the other based on these numbers. You do not know the more important factors.

It similar to assuming that all motor vehicles should max out at the same speed in third gear.

But you do not know too many things to make these assumptions. Whats the base damage of LNC WS compard to base damage of ARC WS?

Whats the modifier for stats to said WS?

Whats the basic auto attack damage per class? whats the percentge modifier and modifying stats per class?

To put it in an example:

    Archer WS A has a base of 100 damage with a 10% mod of 519 = 152

    Lancer WS A has a base of 200 damage with a 10% mof of 498 = 250
This example demonstrates how att pow can easily be irrelavent when compared between different classes.

All of that said, it still does't factor in a mobs resistance to any particular attack types either.

Nor does it figure in any possobility og how STR may effect one class and DEX another.
