While it may be optional, I don't think that excuses making it a long and tedious fate grind. I just hate that a lot of the time their default for something being "difficult" or "taking time to get" seems to default to fate grinding. I have no problems with something being hard to taking time but it seems like almost everything goes right back to fates, especially events. Even for a fate grind, this seemed a little over the top.

Or another option for "dufficult/taking time to get" is to lock it behind old raids, like Wondrous Tails. It'll be like Blizzard upset people aren't running Icecrown Citadel any longer so they make current content that makes you run it .

Far as I'm concerned, "optional" has become an excuse the game industry likes to throw away to dodge criticism. Yokai is particularly egregious as we basically had a content drought throughout August and their solution was this event. If one good thing came from it, I finally picked up Saints Row 2 again. Needed a chill game after RNG hated me.

I think you have the right of it. It's not just the industry either - it's something many consumers have come to parrot as well. As much as I enjoy the game and despite having a disposable income I'm finding myself increasing worried as a collector of minions, mounts and interesting glamour. Why am I worried? Simply put I dislike the rate at which interesting items are cropping up on the Mog Station as 'optional purchases' instead of being available in-game. I'm also not a fan of content being tedious for the sake of being tedious which is pretty much what the Yo-Kai event ended up being.

It's not optional. If you want the rewards, you have no other option but to do this torturing boring quest.

Whereas I certainly experienced the whole drought of one hour, no drops a few times, due to it being non-challenging content it was certainly possible to just catch up on some decent TV (Killjoys/Dark Matter!) and movies on Netflix whilst bombing around the zones.

I kept track of the number of FATEs I'd done for it using the achievement page (not enough to get the next tier) and it ended up averaging about one drop per four FATEs (under 1,000 FATEs in total). That knowledge kept me semi-sane, but there was no way there was going to be a missed seasonal achievement on my char.

I guess it also helped that I had some low-level jobs that I'd never had the motivation to level up. It was frustrating whilst doing it, but never enough to stop me from seeing it through.

As for the event itself, I was bemused as to why we've got a promo for a non-SE game. It's one thing to take other FFs and smatter them across Eorzea (or even DQ), but this was just odd. I hope they do a Transformers crossover next year...

And yes, there could have been a much more interesting way of doing it than farming FATEs for medals. Having you Yo-Kai watch beep when you were in an instance (only 1 in 4) with a Yo-Kai hidden in it (just in an area that you may not normally look) so you had to go and search the place once the dungeon was complete (or on the way round if you were solo unsync'd) for a medal. Each Yo-Kai keyed to certain dungeons all the way up to ExR dungeons.

Well after being put through it, I swore off ever buying Yo-Kai products (I only had the free demo on my 3DS), but after finishing the event and looking round my house, it seems my kids have Yo-Kai watches and discs and an app and cartoons downloaded, so maybe the marketing ploy wasn't aimed at me, but the people in the room watching me play!

At least it's a new club they've started up at school...

This was a bad event. It really was. And from what I've read that's the way the guy the creator of Yokai wanted it. ATMA farming was and is not fun. Events should be fun and entertaining not tedious. All in all I think this turned ppl away from yokai too.

I could only get (3 on main)2 weapons on my main and alt...didn't bother on my other alt...unless you camped particular ones it was hard to get Sliver or Gold with how fast ppl would zerg them, you where better off soloing in areas hardly anyone went to...The grinding + zerging the shit out of dutys reminded me waaaaaay to much of FFXI when Campaign battles where popular (save for when people would drag them out by pulling mobs 1000s of miles from the op)

Gotta feel bad for the ppl who 100%ed this event if the weapons & the mount from getting each weapon shows up in cash shop though

Why would you feel bad? It changes nothing as far as what they went through to get their weapons and mount. It doesn't take anything away from their own achievement. Same goes for any grind this game has nerfed, making things easier to obtain for the players that come after the ones who put tons of time in.

The yokai weapons and mount have a value that isn't in their aesthetics, description tag, and stats. The only thing that would truly suck about putting the weapons and mounts in the cash shop is I would no longer be able to congratulate everyone I see who has them.
