I'm a Russian player and I join those who don't want any translation.
There are just too many things that are nearly or completely impossible to keep the same way as they were originally. Especially jokes, puns and words from "old English" which I actually enjoy to learn and be able to understand.
So far this is the first time I see someone from Russian community asking for a translation. Everyone else seems perfectly fine the way it is.

You know that the native language of this series of games - Japanese? Why do not you play the completely in Japanese? Do you seriously think that in English all the jokes and dialogue sound as the Japanese? If you are so happy to play in English, then why are you whining? To the rest of the people could not enjoy the game in their native language? Or are you someone with a gun at the head will be forced to play it in Russian? Such people as you call - selfish.

I don't play on Steam (didn't know they had FFXIV) so I pay more than I could've and it's already a lot for me. Paying even more for something I never asked for? No, thank you.

As someone already said in this thread - game is originally on all 4 languages. Ofc every language has it's own stuff we can hardly translate. But from what I've seen already in Russian localizations - they always make jokes and other things not funny and some things can even lose sense sometimes. If they can somehow pull it off then sure but good luck with that.

I don't care if this happens, I can simply switch to English and not bother. But what really bothers is that he wants us to pay extra for something not everyone wants. USD and EUR exchange rate to RUB is crazy right now and current sub is already a pain to pay.

I'm not russian, but english isn't my mother tongue either and it's so sad too see so many russians against a possible translation. It's not like you are going to be forced to play the game in russian anyway, should a localization happens.

The fact that this game is translated to german and french, but not spanish or russian, only demonstrates bad market research, that is all.

Both russian and latin american MMORPG markets have been growing up since the whole "decline of mmorpgs" has been happening the last 6 years, as the NA-EU markets go down, the business is right on russia and LA.

The number of famous latin american youtubers that give a try to this game but ultimately end up not suggesting it because the language barrier is huge, in many communities and forums about MMORPGs, anytime one brings up the topic of XIV vs WoW, the reply is the same "one is translanted to spanish, the other isn't". And just like that, this game loses business, as a close example, i have arround 4 friends which are FF fans who would love to give this one a try, but unlike the rest of the series, it isn't translated. For a growing market like the russian, the same rules should probably apply too, you want to advertise and people to play the game, yet they won't come if they have to face the language barrier.

Sometimes it seems like it. They have been borderline bankrupcy a few times and it was precisely because they made decisions based on terrible market studies. Let's say, i wouldnt put my hands into the fire in the name of SE business decisions anytime soon.

MMO subscription based won't fly anywhere, thats the damn point of it, filter out all the freebie kiddies and let them to their crappy F2P mmos. In LA the word "subscription" means a thousand rat kids will go and hide in their LoL, smite or whatever they are playing. The point is, to grab as many subscriptions as possible, this game not being in 2 of the most important languages of the world is a terrible market decision on itself.

And the fact many other developers, specially our so called "direct" competition, WoW, can do it, speaks volumes about this game care and quality, and speaks badly.

By the way, I really don't understand the point. Final fantasy 14 is a MMORPG that stands out from all other projects in its plot. In our country gaming magazine igromania (authoritative magazine in our country, since 1998, conducts its business), was awarded the prize of the game "one of the best mmorpg 2015" - FF14.
The game stands out for its plot, dialogue, atmosphere, music. But this game is not able to catch new players, without the implementation of the transfer. And as a result, to compete in the mmorpg market. In this game, the language barrier plays a big role, and SE should think about that.

I really doubt the vast majority of the playerbase would be against a Russian translation. If there's profit to be made in doing it, then there's no reason not to do it. Obvious question then: Is there profit to be made in doing it? How are you going to prove that? You need something better than just "Oh, it'll probably work out".

Until you have proof all you can have is hope. Hope is free, but results are going to take work. Start making petitions, start getting something concrete to show SE. The forums aren't the people you need to convince.
