3.4 Gathering Gear: Is it just me...

Or does the 200 gear seem pointless? It's a nice option to get if you don't have money, or access to the ironworks set, but if you do then melding can easily get you to 830 and 930 leaving most 200 pieces unnecessary.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm actually using the i200 gear on my gathering Retainers.

Thursday next week will see my fourth Retainer outfitted with the i200 left side stuff. Three weeks after that, my fifths nd final gathering retainer will have it, and I'll be able to start saving for the i200 OH tools for them all.

I went and maxed out Gathering and Perception on the i190 accessories for them, as well. Overkill, definitely, but I figure that this gear will last them through whatever level increase we get with 4.0 ... assuming we get one, of course.

So if using retainers its a good idea to gear them in this stuff while keeping yourself in the 190-195 gear with over melds?

I don't know how good an idea it is. I'm doing it mainly to future-proof my gathering retainers. Right now I don't think you need much more than the white set's gathering and perception on retainers.

My retainers wear my old castoffs and one has good enough iL for the good enough message. The other will as soon as I upgrade my pants.

I'm using the Augmented i200 gathering sets with no problems gathering anything. Obviously the accessories aren't great so I'm still using the sub-lvl60 ones melded to get over 650GP. Come 4.0 & better gear (probably at level 63+) then the sets will go onto the retainers unless Ironworks gear gets über cheap before then.

Part of the reason I went with Ironworks gear for myself was a dislike of the wait to get enough Red Gathering Scrip to upgrade all the i180 to i200. But, the i200 is certainly a viable set, as long as you have something else for the accessories to provide GP.
