It's very cheap to use materia melder anyways... there is no point to buy carbonised matter on the MB unless it is cheaper to use materia melder.

Most people do overmelding with Grade IV Materia, cause even they trow the V at us like candy it is to valuable to lost them by the extrem low success rates for overmelding. Overmelding cant be done through the materia melder NPC, so you need carbonized Matter IV for overmelding on Crafters and Gatherers gear or early progression with crafted battle gear.

It's completely free for me to meld myself - providing they make it easy enough to get the damn G4 Carbonized Matter! XD

Please realize that you can use a higher grade of carbonized matter than the materia you are trying to meld, so people who overstock on g5 can use it to overmeld the g4 materia....

Because it used to be end-game melding matter in ARR before HW showed up. They never really changed the system for gathering it.

That's the point, they changed almost everything else to compensate, except for this.
