    Grade 4 Carbonized Matter

I've done a quick search for this subject but it hasn't been discussed in at least a year so here goes.

G4 Carbonized Matter is too obscure to obtain. I'm *not* saying that it's difficult to get, because it's a simple gather from lvl50 nodes, *but* it only appears at set times & in Mor Dhona. On the other hand, G5 Carbonized Matter is spattered all over Heavensward nodes & can be obtained from NPCs by exchanging Unidentifiable Items that you may not need.

Given that Tier V materia is much easier to obtain than ever before it's definitely time that G4 Carbonized Matter became equally as obtainable. Ideally, at this stage in the expansion, it should be available via retainer ventures (at 20-30 per hour). Arguably G5 should be also added by now. At the very least G4 should be on far more gathering nodes, even lvl50 HW 'standard' ones.

It should have been added to the gathering retainer ventures (46-50) a long time ago. Same goes for Clusters. x5-10 per hour wouldn't be game breaking. It would just follow the pattern of what they did with Gold/Darksteel Ore and G3 Soils.

While it is true that the G5 Carbonized Matter is on a lot of the heavensward nodes, THEY ARE BY NO MEANS EASY TO GET FROM THEM. They are rare hidden items to the point where you're lucky to see it once in an hour or two of gathering, unless you use the 3 hq chain skill to get it. Even then, you'll have used 3 gathering attempts just to find the thing, so you'll have anywhere from 1 to 3 hits and that's it for the node.

Its very easy to get G5 carb matter in comparison to G4 its almost laughable. All you need is 700 GP. Toil > Kings Yield > Profit.

It doesnt make sence that we can gather stacks of G5 per hour but have to settle with such small amounts of G4 even though technically they are required to pentameld far more than G5.

To get 700 gp you need fully melded ironworks gear and probably food. You also need to use a cordial to get your GP up or wait a couple of in game hours for it to regen.

Yeah, how is this easier than waiting for 4 in game hours to get a guranteed stack of 15, more with bonus, with only 500gp and no consumables?

The comment (and this thread) is mainly targeted at max geared (best in slot) gatherer's and the issues they are currently facing relating to carb matter. If you don't have the things you listed, then you will not understand the issues.

Easy is a subjective term i agree. Whats easy to some is not easy to others. But for the purpose of this discussion, to make all things equal, we are assuming you are a max geared Gatherer.

Weather your aware of it or not, you've actually just highlighted one of the major issues. The fact that a max geared gatherer with the latest Best in Slot melded IW set and 700gp with a pocket full of cordials has no advantage in gathering G4 carb matter vs. someone who just hit lvl 50, is wearing NQ quest reward gear and hasn't even purchased Heavensward.

Does that seem right to you?

The fact that Grade V Carbonized Matter is usually considerably cheaper and in larger supply on the MB than Grade IV should have been a sign to SE that some adjusting needs done. We need TONS of Grade IV now for overmelding, but not nearly as much Grade V. I find myself far too often just using my supply of Grade V to meld Grade IV materia when I run out of IV Matter during a melding session and that isn't right.
