SPOILER WARNING - Sorry SE, you've lost me with the latest story

STORY SPOILER - DO NOT READ ON IF YOU HAVEN'T DONE HEAVENSWARD & 3.45 MSQ

We commenced the story with a Garlean invasion, accompanied by the introduction of major characters. Mysterious hooded villains pulling strings from the shadows. Culminating in the epic confrontation and rescue of a friend.

Betrayal followed, leading us to desperate departures, which in turn threw us into the centuries old battle of Ishgard. A tale of another betrayal, yearning revenge, sacrifice, and a final measure of peace.

    All good stuff

Now, this Warriors of darkness, parallel worlds stuff. Ugh. People we are led to believe who fought valiantly to save hundreds or thousands of lives, irrespective of the fact that they knew them not.

These people would then want to kill hundreds and thousands of other people they didn't know. Try as I might, this latest addition to the story seems to be a bit of a stretch. Not quite up to the excellent story lines proceeding it

That the writers slipped on this one. It did seem like the writers took notes from some of the wackier rp on Balmung for this one. I sort of have to agree with the OP.

Because if the fate of their people. Their world will never die, it's bound to became a permanent stasis. Everything they fought for, gone. All those lives they bled for, forced to worship the light for all eternity. A never ending curse. Death is a far better alternative to it don't you think? They are heroes who did everything right and were punished for it. What else can they do? Throw more light power at the light void forming? No, it was a mercy killing, the people they were going to sacrifice would als return to the lifestream. It would have been ending mortal existences to save their entire universe from an immortal never ending hell. To them the benefit far outstripped the cost.

I mean really, if your entire world was going to be doomed to an eternity of worshiping a blinding flooding light with no possible reprieve from death, what WOULD you have done? Gone down with it after spending a good chunk of your life fighting to save it?

Eh, I had no problem sympathising with their cause. My issue is just how quickly they were written out of the plot after being teased for so long combined with the fact that the 'main cast' never seem to suffer any real, lasting consequences. I feel like Nidhogg's arc and the Warrior of Darkness arc were both rushed but that's just me.

This right here. I couldn't pin down what bothered me but that's it right there.

    It made sense to me

All the good deeds they were doing was slowly destroying their world...pushing them into a light filled void waste land...or so they were led to believe.

They lost their faith in the light. They thought everything they were doing was suppose to be for good but it was to destroy their very own planet. They felt deceived by the light.

I can certainly see them do things to enact vengeance. (in addition....they believed the darkness would restore balance with the too much light)

And the Ascians twisted the truth on them to get them to cooperate. How easy it probably was to tell them "The Warrior of Light is going to destroy a world like yours. Kill them and you can bring balance back."
