Xephatol first time for me Tuesday night. I enter and say it's my first time. Only thing one guy said was, "Not our first time." Tank and others speed off and hit all the trash groups up to the boss which was fine, typical useless trash mobs. Arrive at boss, they attack immediately and I just "wing it", trying to watch/hit/avoid what they do, learn mechanics along the way and not die myself.

The same thing happened through the whole instance. Not 1 word of pre-boss info to me. At the end I said ty and reminded them to maybe say few words at bosses for a while as it's new to help new people aclimate. I received a 3-word response from one guy, "That was obvious."

This is why I avoid any total pug groups period unless I HAVE to do content to progress. Unfortunately today, I had to do it to complete the new story. This appears to be a very unhelpful, sarcastic game population overall.

Regardless if the others were new, why do you expect advice on the first day?
They went in their first time maybe 1-2h before you and now you expect them to spoil the mechanics only so that you may take a bit less damage or may not die an neglible death?

I'm not trying to sound mean or anything, but the matter of fact is that every raid patch, or Primal Patch, there just seems to be more and more people kicking just because they can't perform to others' expectations when it's a learning experience overall(and you've only stepped your foot in the door only to have it crushed by someone else).

This sort of thing will always be there now, its the norm in out as fast as possible, even if you are a new sprout or just finished getting the patch started. As ugly as it is, nothing you can do about it except suck it up and move on. Sounds harsh but its the way things are nowadays. Hopefully you do actually get nice people, they are their even though they are the few.

I've gotten a few who are very short tempered. Did a Bismarck run just in trial roulette. One was new, but they weren't the issue. Problem was we took too much damage when we first landed on Bismarck. We got off, healer healed and tanks didn't voke or move the adds. So we wiped.

The Mithra Monk got upset and said this was pointless, and actually just stood there when we tried our next attempt. I told him then he can leave and find a party that does it perfect. He just stood there.

We ended up winning and he stayed there dead on the ground until it was complete. I gave him a hug, called him a special lil snow flake and we kept on moving.

These people are ones who demand perfection because they were either carried by some means for so long with a group that they think they're good, or they are someone who calls in sick to play 8 hours on patch day just to come back and complain that there's nothing to do because they don't like 90% of game (Triad, Gathering, Crafting, etc...) and feel the game should be catered to their liking. Since they don't have that much to do, in a game like this it gives you time to perfect the things you can focus on. So they expect it to go perfectly since they feel it's either so easy, or they've forgotten they screw up too. These are the ones that make the game feel like you're at work, except you can't do anything to them..they can be mean and nameless over the internet..so the internet kinda acts like HR!

Agreed Lei. I am giving this game another month but nothing will change. The behaviors have been allowed for too long and instead of bailing on these people and taking the timer, we enable them and do run after run with the same result. I for one am done with it.

Don't let them run you out of the game. You'll find them in every one (especially with party-centered content like what FF14 is set up around.) FF11 was dominated by the "perfectionists", requiring that the party be very specific jobs because that's what they read on the strategy faqs. Vote kick them out and move on.

Personally, I have been a lot of dungeons where people come into a dungeon who is new and they say that they want to "go in blind because it is better that way." I let them have their way. My philosophy is that if someone screws up in a dungeon, I offer advice after the first wipe. If people are being rude I just leave immediately without a word. When I play tank, I get a lot of dps who are rude and then some healers are even more rude and then some tanks (8-man trials) are beyond rude and outright pathetic (my opinion). I just leave immediately and eat the penalty. My advice is not to take this game seriously. I learned the hard way that this game is filled with people (not all and just my opinion) who throve on being sarcastic, negative, and unhelpful.

I do think that there should be some kind of disciplinary action in place in the game for behavior indicative of being negative and intentionally putting people down but thats just me and the culture that I embody (my opinion). Just grow a thick skin and try not to let it bother you too much. Play how you want and do what you want to do in game. Its always your choice.

I agree that there is a lot of silence in group content in this game, but my own experience isn't nearly as bad as it seems to have been for you. For my own part, I always try to advance what I consider as good gaming culture, as in greeting people I'm grouping with, encouraging and giving advice when asked etc. Not that I'm anywhere near perfect, and I don't always have the energy to be very active socially. But I think the best thing you can do is, be the change you want to see. Maybe with your good example you can inspire others to act the same way.

Many people are not good at taking criticism or handling failure, whether that's in the workplace or in a videogame. I'm sure we've all seen the real-world equivalent at some point flip out on the job or in class. Granted, no one likes to wipe to the same mechanic over and over. Fang and Claw was a nightmare in PUGs.
