Driving me crazy.. (^_^) Why a whole class dedicated to a gunblade?
Not only are there many types of gun weapons, there is already a class for gun weapons and a class for sword weapons.
If anything a -job- that -can- use gunblades but can also use guns and blades would make sense. Like a soldier job or a some pirate job lol
A class dedicated to gunblades just sounds like a way to further confuse the class sytem and make it look like a forced system. Classes need to be simple base items, swords, polearms, books, staffs, ect ect.
So gld + msk = soldier or something - that may use guns and swords and by that result a gunsword. In this system you still have the problem that there are -other- types of gun weapons like a gun lance. So either you make a job for every gun weapon, or you make one job with multiple gun weapon abilities, or you just only make one type of gun weapon available and never let players use the other types. All are disappointing imo.
To avoid this - make gun weapons go to the class the weapon most resembles, like the FF7 advent children gun looks more like a gun then a melee weapon so give it to the gun class / job, the gun sword is more sword then gun so give it to gld, the gun spear is more spear then gun so give it to the lancer. Add some special ability to the weapons.
I think there could a cool system made with passive unlocks cross -jobs- from jobs and classes. Since jobs are an "idea" and classes are a "weapon" I think you could easily say that if you learned a weapon style in a class through some kind of unlock you could use it in your job. Gun class + sword class = gunblade technique unlocked, you can use it on your blue mage or on your red mage, paladin, ect. (Also you could still make a job that uses both guns and swords naturally, and because of this a gunsword would be a great weapon choice streamlining the job (but not required)- however other jobs can also use it too through the passive unlock system I talked about - so a dragoon with a gun lance can work.. imagine impaling a monster and firing into his mouth at the same time.. lol)
In order to ensure items work cross job, as many have suggested I think SE should re-examine their stat system so that every stat is useful.
Short example (up to anyones suggestions, but move to a different thread if you want to talk about it.. lol)
Mage:
STR: Magic Cap Potency (max damage), Offensive Magic duration
DEX: Magic Accuracy
VIT: Magic interruption, HP
INT: Magic Potency (helps control average damage), Casting Speed
MND: Magic points, Defensive Magic duration
(Again just an example, trying to make each stat useful therefore a sword with high STR and DEX could be good for a mage, that is if your "job" mage has used one of its passive slots to equip swords)
