New feature becomes tool for trolls

First off, I have to say I love the new /countdown feature. It's a nice addition to the game. That being said, I just got out of a 24 man dungeon where a dps was in a bit of a hurry, and decided to do a 10 sec countdown as soon as they arrived at each boss, and predictably the bosses would be pulled/aggroed before everyone was there. This abuse of the function should be addressed, preferably without voting to dismiss the person in question. Any ideas on what kind of controls could be put on countdown to prevent abuse and early pulls?

Yeah, I encountered this earlier too running Nidhogg normal. I'd say it would be good if the countdown was restricted to the tanks when you're not on a pre-made party. If you're on a pre-made you're free to do whatever.

Edit: Another thing that could be done is tie the countdown to a ready check. Only if the ready check passes the countdown begins.

While your complaint is valid, I would say if everyone isn't there or ready, just ignore the countdown

I made a thread about this very problem earlier today and included my suggestion on how to mostly avoid/fix it. It's not perfect but it would stop stuff like from happening as often as it does.

For those wondering: While in duty finder,make the countdown feature available only to the tanks of the party. This would cut down on the number of potential trolls who could abuse this to troll.

Only 2/3 need common sense and stand outside of the barrier until ready check. The other 1/3 can die during the early pull.

My solution would be to make it doable only during combat. To tell people how many seconds they have to stand on a platform or hide behind a rock before they die.

Exactly,most ppl won't pay attention to who did the countdown and just rush in anyway thinking it was a tank that did it. It's not until a wipe or 2 that ppl starting wondering what is going on and then try and find who is doing it.This just wastes time for all involved and sours the moods of many.

This can be mostly avoided by only letting tanks activate the countdown. Because even if everyone is "ready",including the healers,is it the tank who should initiate the fight,unless the dps or healer fancy themselves tanks too.

If someone starts a ridiculous timer and half the raid gets locked out, just kick and/or report that person after the wipe. Discourage the behavior at the source and it will naturally decline.

Although I wouldn't say no to restricting it to someone with a blue icon next to their name either...

NOT go just because the count down started. If you know it's a bad countdown, just step back across the line and watch the shitstorm. You'll be fine. The fact that people need this to be idiot-proof is really sad, actually. Lmao.
