I listen to the japanese audio and they're been great in the past and in the present. I don't think they changed the japanese audio, because they still sound the same. It's probably the english dub that was changed for 3.0.

EN changed in Heavensward, they went from NA voice actors to UK voice actors. ARR voices sounded too pretentious, but HW voices sound too shallow (except for Aymeric), and both lack atmosphere.

The English audio sounded like low budget straight to dvd anime dubbing by no name actors on their first job in 2.0 but everything after 2.55 sounds INCREDIBLE. Like straight out of Game Of Thrones or something, top quality acting. It puts the VA in pretty much every other FF game to shame with how much better it sounds.
