I'd honestly wager that they'll bring those minions/mounts back in some form as time goes on. Given the nature of the rarity of it, it won't just be handed out, as some folks may want it to, but that in future seasons you'll still need to place, but maybe not as high. Perhaps it'll be a matter of, at worst, a set of rewards to choose from for the top ranks.

But otherwise I doubt that these exclusive items would return in their current form. Look at pre-order gifts, you can't get those again, not even in some really roundabout method like an extremely lucky retainer quick venture, unless they start coming out of the PotD trimmed sacks.

Pre-order and cash shop items are a bit of a different beast. They're little to no effort old in-game rewards or items made exclusively through a purchase medium (pre-order/cash shop exclusives). Exclusive doesn't have to be rare, it's just to symbolize either timed restraints or some special means of acquisition not normally available. Of course, they could be exclusive AND rare, but that's obviously not the case when any number of people could get those pre-order and cash shop goods at the time lol.

While I wouldn't put it past them to not put them back into the game, it also seems equally likely that they'd bring it back in some form that requires obvious effort or exceptional luck.

I think the problem with this whole thread in its entirety is the fact that pricing itself and what exactly is an item's worth is purely subjective. $18 for an electronic outfit may be a sacrifice someone is willing to make to get when they choose not to go out for a carry out one week or go see a movie.

People worry way too much though about what other people do and I wish the lashing out on others for spending their money the way they want would stop. The only way SE is going to know that you don't agree with their pricing is if you don't spend the $18 or post on the forums, but don't think its okay to force your financial ideals on everyone else. I'm always for obtaining things in game when possible, but unfortunately I don't see an end to the flashy fluff found in the cash shop. You either have the money for it and make sacrifices to get it or you don't, or choose not to. It's the same with every other thing in life.

Cash shops eventually eat the host game, they always do. The more people buy from it the faster we'll be left with a p2w content starved husk.

Do they? WoW's cash shop hasn't blocked off the game with feeling like a P2W one, even with many years of headway to XIV. Not even the level boost does that. Hell, not even its gold for sub time system does that lol.

WoW is by far the largest MMO to ever exist, it'll take longer for it to cannibalize itself than most. FFXIV for all its massive success is much smaller.

I don't know, I just feel like the language being used by cash shop naysayers is pretty unnecessarily vicious all over the forums.

I'm not seeing that at all. I have, however, seen a lot of people telling folk who think the cash shop is overpriced to shut up and not buy it. Or make some condescending comment about how the grown ups with jobs would rather spend their money for something and that they don't have the time to "waste" on a game.

Regardless, attacking people for their tone is not going to get this argument ANYWHERE.

The fact is, when you compare the items available on the Mog Station to comparable items in other F2P and B2P games, they are WAY more expensive - and not even account-wide. It's a poor deal. People can be happy to spend their money on them if they want, but I don't think it's fair to ignore the reality that they could be getting a much better deal out of the business exchange.
