I play both WoW and FFXIV. They both have strong points. They both have areas of improvement. No game will please 100% of people 100% of the time.

Couldn't agree more! Destro Lock, and Blood DK in Pandaria <3

That being said. It's so sad to see people turn so gosh darn diddly hostile as soon as someone mentions other games. When I play WoW with my friends I go on about how much better some things in Final Fantasy are. I do the same with GW2, and other similar games. It's just me expressing what features I like in different titles, and not me wanting something else to turn into a clone. It's a "hey wouldn't it be neat if x had a similar thing as in y". It's not "this game sucks and that other one is much better!".

I love both games. Right now my best friend and I are having the most fun in FF14 so we do our adventuring here. I do much prefer the music, as I used as an example earlier, in other MMORPGs but I don't want FF14 to copy songs or styles. It would however be really nice if they worked more on and improved their own.

I like the wardrobe features in BnS, GW2, and Wow. I'd love to have something akin to it here. I prefer the crafting here, and GW2 over WoW and BnS. The list goes on.

You guys, it's OK to compare stuff and talk about what things that devs could learn from each other. Not clone! Using them as inspirations! Musicians, authors and directors do this all the time.

I'm not demanding or even asking for the devs to change things here to be like in other games. I do however think (if y'all stop being such grumpy butts) it's a fun discussion to have. But oh boy would I love to see a glamour book here. -_- And better music, outfits, zones, and character creation.

To the OP and some other peeps who seem to be on the verge of going capslock rage... yeesh calm down will ya? O_o'

If anything that can be taken from Legion is that the world quests are rather awesome and I think it would help our current empty lands that have no use anymore.

ROTFLMAO. You call FFXIV an addiction and mention South Park in the same post after talking at length in this topic about World of Warcraft? OMG the irony is painful. Or did you forget the searing indictment of WoW that South Park produced?

Wow will always compete with ffxiv even with its ever declining population...it is simply too huge not to.
I enjoy both ffxiv and wow, and have Legion as well.

At times wow will be more of a "main" game for me, other times its ffxiv. When there is a craving for me to be creative, I choose rift for dimensions etc...ffxi for nostalgia...

Not going to argue whether wow or ffxiv is "better", because for me, neither are any better. They are just different. Different strong points and weak areas. But they both have em.

I don't see that as a bad thing, just reality.

(As nice as it would be to have the "perfect" game, there's really no such thing since a game catered to my likes for example would only appeal to a certain minset of people and that's it...yet other ppls priorities I may despise, so no game can ever be perfect, in fact not even close to perfection in all the possible areas to satisfy customers.)

I like that both wow and ffxiv exist (and the others too) Blizzard has made huge mistakes, so has SE ..but at the end of the day they provide games that a vast number of people in the world can enjoy.

I think SE should try and grab some more "pros" from other games, and other games could improve from some aspects of this game as well.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Indeed. Sadly many people do not realize the value of playing more than one game in any given week...and instead play one game until it becomes stale.

This game isn't cartoonish? Well I mean, it's a different style of cartoonish (more anime than Western), but it's not like it's less cartoony imo.

Lot of being critical in this thread but as a new player picking up ffxiv again with ARR, I find the game experience very promising. There are tons of activities to do in the game. Some things might not be very fun like being a resource gatherer but it is still things to do. If you narrow your scope of activities to say.. raiding or just doing dungeon crawls, there are other games that are more for the hardcore raider. Seems that several people want the perfect game and it will never happen. I've played years of eq1 and eq2 and wow.. and while ff14 will never beat eq1 to me, it certainly has me excited for a game that I haven't been at since I picked up everquest 1 for the first time with the kunark xpac.

Or several people may just be running through burn out and need to change things up a bit. It's not a bad thing to play another game.

And this is assuming that Blizzard don't drag their feet on the matter like they did with WoD. Remember how they said they'd likely introduce flying in 6.1 or 6.2 and then waiting until near the end of the expansion to reimplement flying?
Fourth Blizzard has a habit of being far less consistent and more prone to complete overhauls.
I don't condemn overhauls (god knows we need some here for the sake of future content development), but yeah, Blizzard changes their game time and again.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

WoW expansions may form a competition with FFXIV for players who are already playing WoW, but I don't see them competing with FFXIV for new players. I only recently tried WoW for the first time with my partner. We played for 2 weeks, kept leveling up and hoping to see something that would make the game worth playing. In the end we noticed we were always just waiting for the "next thing" (expansion content, dungeons, areas, unlocking raid finder just to see there were no raid we could even do) to be something better, but from a newbie perspective at least it was all just one boring quest or dungeon after another. We didn't find the world interesting or explorable at all and the dungeons were just about running after a tank and rushing through stuff. The battle system was overly simplified (especially compared to FFXIV) and there were practically no mechanics. I guess there's a story somewhere in there, but with the current leveling speed we were just rushing from one thing to another.

After 2 weeks at level 94 we just felt that we should stop looking forward to something that probably isn't going to be there (for us, that is). I guess the actual game there is in the newest expansion content?
