FFXIV has some serious competition with WoW: Legion

I'll never get the teleport argument, there's nothing amazing about taking a flight path and going afk until you reach the destination, which is what everyone does. Taking a flight path and afking = teleporting to an aetheryte without the afking part.

Same for people who advocate for 30 mins boat rides, there's nothing immersive about going afk until you reach your destination, maybe there was back then when youtube and netflix didn't exist, but now they do.

I don't get the transportation argument either. WoW players hop on their flying mounts (even in the original zones) they have multiple speeds of mounts to make them ridiculously fast. They can also hop on an NPC bird and fly to another destination (just like the chocobo rental).

It's interesting how people complain about something in game and compare to another game that has the same features.

And the thing that gets me....

People are complaining about FFXIV being too easy to move about. Too fast.

If you hate teleporting...use your feet. Your chocobo. Your bird...whatever.

Use the actual airship terminals that are ingame at every major HUB.

Pretty much... FFXIV is....it is what it is. While everyone can post gripes, frustrations and things everyone would like to see changed. It still is what it is and the dev said the current path will continue as is. Anything short of sub numbers going into uncomfortable levels won't change the road map it seems. If it does, maybe the game will go FTP, maybe another meteor will hit the planet and the game will be redone as FFXIV: A Reborn Realm Reborn, who really knows for sure. If people like how it is now and are happy, then great! Let them have fun. For those of us that only like a small fraction of what the game has to offer, then that's okay too cos we have our other games of choice to play and FFXIV can take a back seat to visit when we wish too.

Like I may adore Blade and Soul to pieces, that doesn't mean I want to make FFXIV into Blade and Soul. Why, when I can just play Blade and Soul and have fun there and only visit FFXIV for the things I do like there?

Firstly why would you pay a sub for WoW. It is immensely easy to make Gold in WoW and you can buy game tokens.

Secondly SE couldn't turn FF14 into an open world game if they wanted to. It would require such a huge overhaul of the games core engine that it just wouldn't be feasible. Its like trying to turn a car into a speed boat. Maybe you could do it but it would probably wouldn't work too well and in the end it would just be cheaper to pay for a speedboat.

Thirdly they are introducing flying into legion within a few patchs. They said mid expansion so that probably means next teir so 7.2 or 7.3 at the latest. Frankly movement around Legion will be quicker and easier than it is in FF14 relatively soon.

Fourth Blizzard has a habit of being far less consistent and more prone to complete overhauls. This applies to game design and story. The artefact you would be grinding your ass off in Legion to make won't survive into the next expac and currently they are saying they have no plans to create a new one since 'its a legion thing'.

Finally, both games have a lot of great things about them and both are worth playing. However while they have a lot of similarities they have a lot of differences too and weither you favour one of the other is purely down to personal taste which varies a great deal even within a single games playerbase. Case in point, I LOVE FF14's crafting and gathering system and it is superior to WoWs in a way that frankly I doubt WoW will ever manage to match.

Something unique and not a FFXIV A WoW Clone reborn because Yoshi P seem to think that taking a playerbase from another MMORPG that will just go to that MMORPG or whatever is hot right now is important than the loyal key core SE customergroup?

You'd be surprised how many threads we get over on the WoW forums, almost daily now, of people in your exact position only with the games reversed. "WoW is stale now. Here's why FFXIV is better" sums it up.

I have friends that stopped FFXIV so they could play legion. On the other hand, I have friends that came from WoW to play FFXIV. There are also people from GW2, Black Desert, Tree of Savior, coming and going from FFXIV. I think that since WoW and FFXIV are kinda similar (both are sub-based mmos and so) we tend to hear more comparisons. FFXIV has a competition with all MMOs in the market. FFXIV is going to lose subs because of these MMOs but also gain subs from MMO players that are burnt from these games or don't like them (since MMO players usually play different mmos till they find one they like). Legion is not going to destroy FFXIV fanbase. Just as the next FFXIV expansion won't destroy WoW fanbase.


Now, talking about the OP point, honestly, I feel that this is the whole "oh! shiny" feeling.

I play both and WoW is ugly compared to FFXIV. Classes are pretty shallow now too due to over-ability pruning. I only enjoy WoW for the ACTUALLY NOT 90% HUMAN RACES and the lore these days. Legion is just an endless grind to be honest. Even when you hit level cap, it doesn't even feel like you're max level because you still have to do quests and level up your dumb weapon.

(Also pandaria was one of the best expansions they've ever made thank you very much, if you were a raider anyway.)

I know some people complained how the text in FFT was but that is howth doth thy talked in the days of old.

That's one of the reason I couldn't get into the story but then I switched the voices to Japanese and everything sounded fine. Really not the biggest fan of the localization of this game.
