FFXIV has some serious competition with WoW: Legion

    RIP Thread.

    (Erased OP)

You people have turned this into a WoW VS FFXIV debate when my OP was about FFXIV's world feeling small and disconnected. Thus losing my sub to another game with a more open world. Thread title was click bait for dev review, nothing more.

    Please lock/delete.

    Another thing.

    The voice acting.

What the hell is with the VA in this game. Why is it so bad.

I have ranted before about hating the actors but this time I'm not ranting about that.

I'm talking about the actual recordings themselves! They're so god damn bland! There's NO ATMOSPHERE WHAT SO EVER TO THEM.

Like Ser Aymeric is talking to me in a GIANT STONE HALL and theres NO REVERB AT ALL? There's NO SPACIAL ATMOSPHERE in any of the voice recordings! It's straight up like someone just recorded into a mic and then threw it into the game.

Why is it that when I hear someone yell or cheer in a cutscene its just coming straight at me. Does this not bother anyone else?

Like come on SE. This game could be a lot better and frankly it HAS to get better.

Were numbers invented or discovered? How many Moogles does it take to make Kuponut rum? Answer: zero... They will give you a quest to make it.

Be careful of what you wish for. WoW has the buff-nerf rollercoaster and all the crap that hits people as a result. We have our discrepancies and issues here, but seeing entire specs under threat of being broken by changes is an entirely different matter.

The only thing I can give WoW is their quest design, which is still above FFXIV's. It's probably a result of all the systems built into their engine, but yeah you get temporary powers and vehicles and silly things that do add to the questing experience. When combined with the zone storylines, it all gives you a sense of agency.

For example, the "level up a minion" style quests would have been perfect for one of the moogle questlines in the Churning Mists (the one with the moogles you were helping train but ended up doing all the work for them).

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
    * Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)

Sadly that how XIV is, not that it's a bad thing of course it's more a matter of taste but in this day and age people want to get from Point A to point B in less then 1 min, not go from Point A, to point A2, then A3, then around C just to go to B.

Well see no one is forcing you to take the shortcuts, you are more then welcome to take the long way round, the shortcuts are optional.

the VA I really don't mind in this game. But what bothers you on about it? I know some people complained how the text in FFT was but that is howth doth thy talked in the days of old.

While I agree that Legion is amazing and 3.4 has been rather meh, I am not agreeing with the reasoning specifically. That said, overall I'd give Legion a solid 9/10. Whereas Heavensward I'd probably give a 7 and 3.4 I'd give a 4. That isn't exactly fair, though, as my grade for Heavensward is diminished by lacklustre patches since its release. We have yet to see how the Legion patches will turn out.

Porting from one point of the world and back and back and back in less than a minute is a bad thing. Sure I could fly through every zone, but why bother when I can just port there and I have ten million quest objectives sending me back and forth across the world.

Design quests that require less world travel, fewer filler quest stops (talk to person A at A and B at B back to A at A then to C at C). More local quests. Add incentive rewards to longer quests that require more travel.

And when there IS long distance travel involved... THEN use something like a "portal" or "Aetheryte" as a mid way gap closer.

You can pretty much take a portal in WoW to be within about 5-8 minutes of any location.

XIV puts you within about 2 minutes of every location in the game. I mean theres teleports in the cities to take you to fifteen other locations in the city for gods sake.

Ok I'm not talking 30 minute boat waits.

You can literally traverse the entire continent in WoW in fifteen minutes through flying. Theres really nothing that bad about that. Very rarely is it going to make you do that either.

Our biggest zone is Sea of Clouds and about %75 of it is just empty space.

I don't even see how anyone can argue that this isn't bad design.

As for the VA's as I stated, its that they have absolutely no spacial atmosphere to them. They literally sound just like someone talking into a telephone or something and I'm listening to it on my headset.

The voices have no effects. No reverb (Why does Ser Aymeric sound like hes in a sound proof room when hes sitting in his big stone hall?)

As someone who plays both, I'd say they both have their pros and cons and yes, WoW has and always will be competition for FFXIV. FFXIV has certain people in the community who think that FFXIV is perfect, and that WoW/FFXI/etc. are all horrible. Suggest an idea from such games and wait until you get more than a few of those responses.

FFXIV winning in "fluff" area, and WoW winning... well, with everything that isn't fluff. Speaking of Legion specifically, it does everything right. The questing is amazing, the main story isn't all that (barely exists actually) but all the little side stories of each region are interesting, there was never a moment I felt truly bored unlike Heavensward questing where it felt like I was playing pre-Wratch WoW in how much of a bore questing was. There's so much good voice acting in Legion, people say FFXIV is the story focused MMORPG but Legion really spins that on its head. Most quests aren't filler, like in FFXIV, sure there's kill and collect but they're packed with good reasoning and apart from Highmountain, don't have you killing bugs or what have you.

Suramar is fantastic, one of the most beautiful cities I've seen in a game and even with their 15+ year old engine it blew me away. This isn't to mention the amount of questing content it has, not just "collect this" quests, but actual entertaining quests with story lines, it does slow down near the end due to the reputation gate but that's MMOs for you. The dungeons are easily equal in size to a 24 man FFXIV raid, including visual variety. The Halls of Valour blew me away especially. I haven't raided yet as I'm waiting for friends to hit 110 and gear up, but I expect the raids will better than the dungeons.

There are a few things I'd like to see come into FFXIV from legion, the open world you mentioned is a huge one. An open world makes an MMO feel like an MMO, as it stands FFXIV feels like many separate instances with no real connection, there's no feeling of a world but rather separated pieces of land. If I hadn't looked at a map of Eorzea I wouldn't be able to tell where anywhere was, all I knew is that I could teleport to everywhere I wished to teleport to, or go through a loading screen and be moved kilometres away but it's all the same. The questing, please don't make the same mistakes you did with ARR and Heavenswarwd, the journey to level cap doesn't have to be a long one. Legion is short and sweet and I'll remember it for a long time because of that, meanwhile Heavensward was filled with tedium, from gathering points to allow me to fly only to move onto the next zone, forcing me to do every side quest and even then not have enough EXP to move on with the MSQ, forcing me to dungeon grind, etc.

I could say more, but I feel the only thing that must be said is that we need a glamour log. I complained about fluff and all, but WoW's collection system is the best thing since sliced bread and I'd love to have it in FFXIV.

WoW's combat system is honestly a lot simpler, just much faster. Besides that, I doubt it would ever come to consoles considering addons like DBM are now mandatory for raiding (I believe the development team creates mechanics with that addon in mind).

How are you here? You can't log in to the forum if you haven't played in a month.

I'm using the Consoleport Addon with Bartender4. Theres a Youtube guide on how to set it up. You NEED Bartender to make it function just like the XIV bars but without it, the default UI and keybinds for Consoleport are fairly efficient.b

Consoleport uses WoWmapper a standalone software. Which makes the DS4 (Dualshock4) work natively with WoWmapper and Consoleport (No need for XB360 emulation)
