Squadron Missions

You can train them three times per day (I trained them twice, reached that 200 point cap, and then sent them out for a third hour of training in that exp-only training thing). The once weekly stuff is the 18 hour missions.

I had two level 1 missions, a level 5 mission, a level 10 mission, and a level 15 mission. I sent my level 9 squad on the level 10 mission, figuring they were close enough.

I think I may have sent mine out on a crap mission then. If that's how it works it's going to be a very long & boring process.

Perhaps I'm missing something but...how do you get the fourth recruit to begin the missions? I believe it said I had to complete challenge log stuff but I've been doing that and there's still no recruits available to me.

There is a chance of a new recruit appearing each time you complete a battle or Gold Saucer Challenge Log entry. Sounds like you've just been unlucky so far. Keep trying!

It's random, I've got 6 extra recruits from doing the challenge log, 2-3 challenge log activities per approximately.

I think it's all challenge log entries. I unlocked squads on 4 characters, and went:
2/4 on do five treasure maps challenge, had them saved up before the patch
0/2 on craft 20 HQ items (bronze rings)
1/2 on craft 30 items (bronze rings again)
0/1 on do 3 gold saucer minigames
1/1 on earn 100 MGP from gold saucer minigames
