So just like we have a job that's called Bard but is really more of a cross between Bard and Ranger, we might be getting a job that's called Red Mage but is actually a cross between Red Mage and Mystic Knight. Yeah, that could work.
(After all, whatever job we get, it'll be the FFXIV variant of the job, and will almost certainly not exactly match its implementation anywhere else.)

Alisaie's sword looked to be a similar model to the Dark Knight's Balmung, which is ironically the same model used for the Padjali DRK sword.... So I don't know. It may be unique to her like Y'shtola's staff.
Her animations were the generic GLD sword swings used for weapons that don't have their own special animation and stances, like crafting and gathering main hand gear.
But her comment about studying multible schools of magic pretty much cements that she's some sort of proto-Red Mage.
It makes me wonder if Red Mages use swords of aetheric energy as their main hand, or if that's just Alisaie showing off.
She's just showing off. If RDM gets in the game it'll probably be more along the lines of Ilberd's enspell type thing in that one cutscene.
I would certainly love it more if we could do what Alisaie did though despite me loving enspells.
