I don't mean to be a party pooper, but shouldn't this thread wait until we actually know what job(s) are being released in 4.0? Not to mention what, if any, major class changes, added skills, etc. are going to come with the expansion?

There's been a lot of speculation about what the new jobs will potentially be (pretty much everyone thinks Samurai and Red Mage for sure, the rest want like Dancer and Beastmaster, among others, for the 3rd job that will likely be in). It just gets people's opinions out there, really, and it gets people more excited for the expansion. Since we pretty much know where the expansion will be taking us now (because MSQ, not gonna spoil it), people are already thinking about what we know and don't know about that area's society and what jobs will and won't fit for that region.
Speculation does not mean the jobs will be released in 4.0 or ever. When Heavensward came around NO ONE expected a job like Astro or Machinist. They were all leaning towards Agent or Musketeer with the gun tip off and something like Astrologian wasn't even considered if I recall correctly. There's been a lot of speculation about what the new jobs will potentially be (pretty much everyone thinks Samurai and Red Mage for sure, the rest want like Dancer and Beastmaster, among others, for the 3rd job that will likely be in). I wasn't saying we will certainly get the jobs in 4.0 or ever, nor was I saying with certainty that we will get new jobs. I merely defended why people are talking about this. It gets people excited for the new announcements whether or not the speculation is correct. That's the point of it.
If we get any new jobs, the new jobs may or may not reflect what was speculated. People realize and understand this, but it's no reason to not speculate. People are excited and want to talk about it, no need to be a party pooper because we don't KNOW what we're getting, if anything at all :P
Also, another surprise like Astrologian was would be very welcome in my opinion.
Still hoping for Red Mage and/or Dancer though. Especially the former considering Ilberd in that one cutscene, or somehow getting a job based on 3.4 MSQ SPOILER IN BOX. I'd like that a lot (BUT IT WON'T HAPPEN, that I'm certain of lol)Alisaie's Aether Sword in the 3.4 MSQ

Ya no need to ruin the fun a simple discussion.
Besides we should be getting the Official reveal very soon as it was mentioned a few month back Yoshi-P plan to reveal the New Jobs during a event in Fall 2016.
On topic:
To be honest the only thing that would probably make me switch Main Job in FF14 would be a Gunblade Job but that promise been gathering dust ever since Yoshi-P said in 2.0 that he wanted to save that idea for once we gain access or begin moving towards the Garlean Empire. Of course that means chances of the Official Gunblade job release is S.O.O.N. during or after the Garlean Empire Expansion.
S.O.O.N. = Sometime Or Originally Never
I was Noct AST before buffs half the time and I'll probably stay on Noct AST. Any reworks will just be a bonus. Maybe they'll give me a Holmgang effect for Collective Unconscious for the people who scoot outside of it like I'm trying to kill them with an AOE. I can dream.

If RDM gets introduced and its designed in a way I deem acceptable, I'll likely switch mains and use PLD to farm tomestones via roulettes.
If RDM doesn't get introduced, then I'll stay as PLD.
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
Don't think I'll ever switch. if something interesting comes along (looking at you battle cleric/battle mage) I'd add it to the classes I play.
OP - thx for posting this, interesting topic.
Samurai and Red Mage are almost guaranteed to be in, the community has been asking for them since 2.0 and they will get people to buy the expansion.
Ya if Samurai or Red Mage, which ever is the new DPS Job, end up being interesting enough then I may switch my main to that. If there is anything I enjoy playing as next to a Gun and Technology type character it is a Sword User and Magic Sword user type character.
Before Guns characters the Sword DPS type character was my play style of choice back in the day before RPG and MMORPGs introduced Gun classes as playable characters.
