Why can't we go on two missions at a time? This feels like an unnecessary roadblock to a piece of content that already has a guaranteed 18hr wait time between each mission.

And you have 1 squad that you send out. Its an extra retainer for your ventures, just looks different.

I wondered this as well. It's already a venture where you have to travel to your grand company just to start it and don't even get to send offall 8 troops. I really hope they will eventually allow us to recruit them for dungeon runs otherwise they are pointless.

Does anyone know what is meant by the "once per week" thing yet? I know you can train them 3x per day but I maxed their stats after two training sessions so sent them on an 18hr mission. Does that mean I can't do anything worthwhile with them now until after reset next week?

The text explanations in this patch, both in the patch notes & in game may as well have been still in Japanese for all they're worth when it comes to clarifying the situation.

You can train them three times per day (I trained them twice, reached that 200 point cap, and then sent them out for a third hour of training in that exp-only training thing). The once weekly stuff is the 18 hour missions.

I had two level 1 missions, a level 5 mission, a level 10 mission, and a level 15 mission. I sent my level 9 squad on the level 10 mission, figuring they were close enough.

Perhaps I'm missing something but...how do you get the fourth recruit to begin the missions? I believe it said I had to complete challenge log stuff but I've been doing that and there's still no recruits available to me.

There is a chance of a new recruit appearing each time you complete a battle or Gold Saucer Challenge Log entry. Sounds like you've just been unlucky so far. Keep trying!
