dev1206 questions on the use of shield for non GLA

for those of you who have not read it yet http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/30501?p=441509#post441509 Here ya go!

some very great things coming down the pipe line form our devs. We will be losing some stuff but making each class unique is very important to me.

With that being said the idea of doing away with the Shield Skill kinda worries me.

quote from dev post (3. Shield Skill
Not being bound to any class in particular, the shield skill has been handled as an irregularity when it came to the obtainment of experience points and actions. In reviewing the identity of each class, it was decided that shield actions should be made a part of the gladiator arsenal. In order to streamline the system and accentuate class uniqueness, the shield skill will be phased out and instead take the form of actions and traits learnable by gladiators.

Please be aware that the above changes will render all gains associated with the shield skill (levels and EXP) invalid.)

As a THM I use a Shield. The to my knowledge the lvl of shield skill includes not just actions learned but also increases DEF and your chance to block right?

Doing away with it seems like a problem but maybe something else will be done to make shields usable the other classes.

I would love to hear dev feedback on this as well as any feedback form you folks.

I'm very troubled and it seems like they didn't even ask the community before making such a decision. It's like they don't $@$#! care.

I know how this will result and everyone has their own little irrelevant opinion to the statement on "shields should be left open to their own skill". The fact that people play differently and should be left open to that notion is what make Final Fantasy so special and and SQUARE ENIX is shit canning it and spitting in our faces. I had to deal with many stupid changes since BETA, many changes that made the game special in it own way.

Regardless if the game will be great in any way, form or fashion, SE should at least let us speak on the subject first! Let that community rep know that whether or not there's a 50/50 pro/con rate to the shield change, skills need to be left alone if not enhanced. If it isn't broke do fix it or abolish it. Skipping town and reducing the game to simplicity will just bore the hell potential newcomers. There wont be variety within classes and taking out battle elements for the use between war & magic makes the system less interesting and plain vague.

This subject us to dictatorship like a communist of war, so to speak. Dictate to use how to play our job will you?? I don't remember this was a focus in the beginning design of FFXIV.

Remember the single hand weapon users! It's not just about Gladiator, it's about every class. Shield is an important skill and not to be taken for granted. Don't you guys dare push us around with this decision like some Bureaucrats on crack!

    Hey.

Levelling shields doesn't mean you play differently. There is nothing special about this, seeing as how three classes can equip them.

It isn't broken, but it's just not interesting, and the better Shield skills need to go to GLA anyway because that class needs help in the worst way.

I really don't care about the reasoning, not being open minded to shield skilling makes the game more vague and less possible for options. Give the adventurers a damn choice! If gladiators one day can duel-wield, they would be with two swords.

If a Archer think he will need a shield, I think it's his/her right. If some even feel to hold a shield and Scepter, why hold it against them?? Heck, it should be an option to duel-wield shields and that would make this game even greater and more open to customablity of play styles and imagination.

It's not the rationality of the matter, it's the openness to options and to be creative with your class. If you don't like shields, don't use it. If you want shields every way possible, approve this message.

Shield skill for single handed weapon class!

    Hey.

Equipping shields doesn't mean you play differently. There is nothing special about this, seeing as how three classes can equip them, and especially after the changes to how shields, the loss of an active blocking stance, and the new blocking system works, it makes actually using them be nothing but a minor defense bonus for mages.

It isn't broken, but it's just not interesting, and the better Shield skills need to go to GLA anyway because that class needs help in the worst way.
