Personally I would also like the emperor to not be killed, rather betrayed by Regula, and the rest of the plot play out as predicted (all warring triad defeated, Regula rises as a "god", we defeat Regula).
I'd like to think the writers might be playing the long game with the Triad story. If Regula is to become a Kefka-esque character then it would be somewhat anti-climactic for us to defeat him as soon as he acquires the Triad's power. It would be a lot more satisfying IMO if he got what he wanted then defeated us, only to go on to become the primary villain of the Garlemald expansion pack or something.

Remember, just about any guesses as to where the Triad story is going to go amounts to this:

That said my current favored hypothesis is that Regula is going to go Kefka - he's showing signs of mental breakdown after our duel in the Neurolink Nacelle - or perhaps General Leo if he takes the Scions' words to heart and realizes how stupid Varis' plan is. Rough outline. Neither outcome being true is possible.

Anything else is just wild speculation...

I'm also gunning for Regula to go full Seraph mode on us.
I think it will happen, even tho the storyline is eerily similar to Nael's story.
The General Leo theory I hadn't heard and I would love that as well, but still a Dancing Mad fight would be the best possible ending.

The Emperor is brand new so I don't think he will die, and the game certainly isn't ready for him to be a boss yet.

i guess giving that the triad are a huge part of FF6 story it was only natural that their were some Kefka inspired art work in their appearance in FF14

Its entirely plausible that Kefka-Regula captures/cripples the Emperor and rules as his "regent". Alternatively if the Warring Triad series does end up being required for the MSQ after a point that the death of the Emperor who wiped out anyone else capable of taking over causing such instability that the Alliance can launch an offensive to remove the Imperials from Eorzia

This is not surprising considering Nael was of the VII legion (sephiroth, meteor) and Regula is of the VI legion (Kefka, warring triad). The story of Sephiroth and Kefka are not dissimilar and both involve the character going insane and attempting to destroy the world with a doomsday scenario, the primary difference is in aesthetic and personality which isn't present in XIV

What would really make Regula appear more like Kefka is if it was he who ordered the complete destruction of Doma.

That would make sense considering that unlike other Garlean leaders, Regula rose through the ranks on merit alone. No corruption (that we know of) only skills and unwavering loyalty.
It would be a huge boon to the emperor to show that one of the legatus's had the nerve to remove a rebellious city from the map.

If only Yugiri was in the warring triad storyline, that would be epic (though perhaps a bit shoehorned).
