    MATERIA for RARE/EX GEAR

    Ok, so I've been seeing a lot of complaints floating around about how materia'd gear completely dwarfs r/ex gear (unique/untradeable). And, I have to say, I agree with the complaints, completely.

    Some ppl have tried to justify the "nerfed" r/ex gear by saying that it's much easier to acquire, whereas materia is harder to get a hold of, especially the type you want... and so on. That *might be the case, if this game weren't an MMO...but it is, so that's a moot point. And while an INDIVIDUAL might find it difficult to get the materia he/she wants, the hordes of other players out there, constantly acquiring and selling materia....do not have trouble providing everyone with plenty of materia to buy in the wards.

    And, this "phenomenon" will only get more and more common, as more ppl start to play; so, everyone needs to stop being close-minded and think about how much EASIER it is to get materia, than it is to get r/ex gear. And the worst part about it, is that it only takes 1 materia on a piece of gear, usually, to have it completely dominate it's r/ex counterpart. So, with a handful of gil, a player could log on the game for their first time ever, get "PL'd" to 50, and have a full set of gear that dwarfs everyone else's "hard-earned" raid/dungeon gear.

    So, how do we battle this w/o completely undermining one or the other? Here's an idea...R/EX gear stays non-convertable, but changes to meldable. AND, as a perk...R/EX gear CANNOT "blow up." Any botched melding attempts and you lose all your materia, but you NEVER lose the original piece. I'm sure SE can come up w/ some kind of imaginative way to explain why r/ex gear doesn't bust, but either way...it's a great idea imo. However, I would really like to see SE make the r/ex gear more difficult to obtain. The bat and ogre fights seem to be little more than "spam" strats: spam the tank in cures, spam the mobs in tp moves, spam the boss in enmity abs. I want intricate fights with something a little more innovative than running back and forth every couple of minutes to dodge a handful of pointless monsters....

    Agreed, I'm hoping with the upcomming bazaar changes allowing crafters to add materia without trading items will allow the devs an easy option to add materia to U/U gear.

    If they go ahead and do it they will probably want to limit it to just one piece of materia though.

    I agree with you that Materia gear is easier to get than most U/U gear now, but adding materia + U/U would require even more work so it makes perfect sense to me.

    SE need to do something about rare gear, nobody will stick around and play an MMO when content has no decent rewards, I want more than just weapons from my boss fights also.

    Ya, for real, Jinko. I don't see why it couldn't be added once the bazaar option comes into play...otherwise we couldn't even get U/U gear repaired, which isn't the case. Although, I don't agree w/ you about the slot limits. They just need to find a way to balance it. Maybe make it where tradeable gear has the better base stats, since U/U has the potential to get 3 materia on it w/ no risk whatsoever but the materia itself. Personally, I don't like the blow-up crap at all. I'd prefer that it wasn't there at all, so hq gear still had a fighting chance, but w/e. Maybe they should consider making it where hq gear has a less chance of being lost on a blow-up...

    I would prefer to see R/EX gear only be able to slot Grade 3 and under, and not Grade 4's. That way, the balance isn't completely destroyed.

    Yoshi-P has stated that PVP is coming, and we have to account for this. It wouldn't make sense if we had an Ifrit Lance with the best Grade 4 materia you could find, and it would drub the crap out of everything it came up against. That would be an instant I-Win button that people do not want to see.

    U/U's only materia restriction should be that it can't go forbidden. With the current system, dropped gear has to be crazy good to compete with something a crafter can mass produce and add materia to.

    Balance is already completely destroyed. Might as well just finish it.

    Again crying because you don't have an Ifrit weapon?

    People would BETTER gear shouldn't be BETTER then you?

    My take on Rar/ex and materia:

    Right now you can only put materia on non rar/ex equipment(everyone knows this, I know). The first attempt is 100% on those pieces of equipment. On the second materia attempt it drops down to 15% or more, depending on what level of materia you are trying to put on. So for the rar/ex gear for the first attempt on TIER I materia, make it a 20%(give or take a few) success rate. On the next attempt make it a 10%, third 5%, forth 2.5%. Something along the lines of that; Tier I materia!. For tiers above one. Make it next to impossible(improbable) to put a materia on the piece of Rar/ex gear. That's what I would like to see happen.

    The R50 GLA/MRD Sentinel set is unique and you can put materia on it.

    They need to add it to rare/ex gear but in a limited fashion. Maby cap it at 2 materia per piece or something, where crafted item can get up to 7.

    The current system is going to constantly make dungeon and such gear become worthless as you level. Negating the content in the game. For instance Dark Hold, make it where you can materia on those piece there is a reason to do the dungeon again, currently every piece is crap because materia gear is better.

    This game would be decent now for endgame if there was still a reason to do faction bosses, World (higher lvl) NMs, the dungeon, the 3 settlements and ifrit. With patch 1.19 everything outside Ifrit and Settlements is worthless... and even half the settlement gear is worthless. Causing a massive lack of content.
