it have way to create a system of growth for age, but don't want to do it. it's called the relic... since day one it was possible to create a growth system that will follow the player for the whole expansion.
instead of this we get boring grind that is mindless.

about people saying legion will change all and kill ff14, if blizzard didn't learn from WoD it will change nothing, the only way to compete is to offer as much content release. yes is not new and game breaking and repeating stuff over and over. but wow have done it too with more month between content.

In my opinion, they're terrified at the idea of change. Which sadly might cause their own demise. Guess time will tell.

One of the common threads of dissent on the forums seems to be the gear system, and I understand wanting options, or having BiS gear to be spread across content. But do you really want a game were BiS itself is based on the fight, and you need to have 2 or 3 meaningfully different "BiS" options to work with? That seems exhausting!

No, but there should be more than 2 sets of top end gear where 1 of them is pure weekly locked out grinding.

my simplest suggestions would be to split up armor and accessories.

no accessories in Raids only weapons and armor. Accessories can drop from EX Primals and other events.

split the augmentation items into it's own content and also have perishable materia that has unique traits like Shield Bash Recast -1, or Blood of the Dragon Potency +.

The problem with "lasting content" is by definition, it needs to last, a long time.

    How do you do this?

A few options. Low drop rates (annoying, IE atmas which everyone hated with a passion) ok, so thats out.

How about gear longevity? Ok, so we have all this gear that is pretty good,a nd you just spent month acquiring it. we have a new patch releasing with gear of similar stats and lvl. you dont really need this gear to do anything (aka, diadem 3.4 gear, which everyone says will be DOA)

so now you have good gear you took months getting, and the new gear they are adding doesnt really add much to your character, so why bother?

Oh, but it has stats that are good for X fight they added! but isnt that the same as just upgrading gear with each patch? "but thats not HORIZONTAL Progression, we want to have gear for different fights that takes months to get that we can keep using"

But then you reach a saturation point where they can no longer just make gear different without increasing your stats, and then you run out of growth, and start all over with new gear of a higher level that will just replace the old gear entirely, only it took you months to get said gear, and now it will take more months to replace it.

but now they have to create the same-ish content for the new gear to be useful for, and the old content becomes outdated.

Its basically the same cycle with varying time requirements that just makes no sense really.

Eh, I'm one of the silent few I guess. Perfectly happy with the progression of the game and I'm never bored. As he stated, I'm one of those that doesn't have the time for something like XI anymore. There are certainly aspects that I miss. This game fits my current lifestyle though so I continue to play daily for a few hours at most. Not unsubbing any time soon.

I have typed and deleted a few responses at this point. All I have left on feelings about gear and progression at this point is "whatever".

The devs have their vision of this game and they are going to run with it no matter what. For the most part, unless they have a mass exodus of a large number of people at one time, they will not deviate in any significant way. Even if I don't like that fact, I accept it.

Before some smartass says it, I'm not leaving this game to play a different one. If it isn't a FF MMO, I have zero interest in it.

Reading too much of the forums makes me very sad and apathetic.

Said it once, so I'll say it again.

I can really get behind what Yoshi-P's saying about progression and end game. FFXIV is the first MMO I've ever played where I actually hit the level cap at all, let alone went on to hit the cap on everything. Still, now that I've reached that point, I do feel a bit listless, just trying to catch up to the absolute pinnacle of the end game. It does sound like they've got plenty of plans in the future to help alleviate such boredom, and I for one look forward to seeing it, however far ahead that may be.

I really like the way FFXIV is set up. You get a new raid and gear every 6 months with a catch up patch in between. I never get bored of playing FFXIV because a new raid always comes out in 6 months giving me a new bis gear set to work for along with new dungeons to do. There is no huge grind to level up your character post level cap like in FFXI.

If you look at FFXI SEs other MMO. It has a lot of post level cap grinding in the form of merit points and job points. Both merit and job points are a very huge grind but when you grind them out your character becomes much stronger. But what happens with this it makes the gap for new or returning players so huge they will not be able to catch up and do the new content. With FFXIV its easy for new or returning players to get caught up and play the game.

If you break down merits in ffxi, besides group 2 merits, you were really amassing enough exp at level 75 to be ~ level 130, yet you put points in Str+5 or combat skill+21 which made you about as strong as a psuedo level 80. So it was an illusion of growth but really they were limited phantom levels at exorbitant exp costs. Group 2 merits were abilities and traits you would/should have gotten 75-80!but instead you could oick/upgrade only a few. Illusion of character development.
