Does FFXIV *Really* Want A New Non-Viera Race?

I've not seen many overtly sexualized player characters in game, either. I see it more with Highlander NPCs and their obsession with subligars and the awful hempen camise. There really aren't many gearsets that heavily slant towards that, and even when they do, men have it as bad if not worse.

I don't think you understand the problem OP. We don't want a tough human race. Roes are unpopular because they are just buff humans with weird skin colors. The problem with Viera isn't that it is a cute sex doll. The problem is that it isn't that visually different from Mi'qotes, Au Ra and everything else we have in the game.

That's why I suggested Hummingways in one of my threads. They are Lalafel sized, covered in fur, and have animal parts. They are also parts of the lore already. We can't have beast tribes for lore reasons and very inhuman looking races because of they would be hard to develop. Hummingways are probably humanoid enough to make it, but different enough to work.

Garif as new race as we go into Ala Mhigo, it would be incredibly fitting the region geography and lore, they could even be a sub-race of Ixali or be their rival in someway.



And yes, i want any race before another "human-pet" race. Miqo'tes are already plague enough to endure.

I cannot emphasis this enough. FFXIV severely lacks in customization options-- at least when compared to other MMOs. I would much rather see them add more for existing races than make a new race altogether.

I think they said this was due to PS3 limitations. PS3 has limited ram that it can only display so many different custom race options. Like how Au Ra horns are locked to face. Everyone wants more customization but it probably won't happen until PS3 is no longer supported.

Miqo'te and Au Ra are thriving! It was a very good decision to make them cute! They are very successful as a race because of it. Statistics show.

Except that statistics don't show that that's why they're thriving. It's true that Miqo'te and Au Ra are both cute, but it's also true that they're the most bestial races in the game. Maybe they'd be even more popular if that quality were accentuated in more overtly bestial races. If Miqo'te were more like Ronso, or Au Ra resembled their original concept art, they might be even more popular.

Even those of us keen on a new race, Viera or otherwise, want to see the current races expanded.

It's a strange and uncomfortable feeling to spend hours meticulously building your character to fit everything you want, only to run into a look-alike 2 days later....

I've read over and over that the PS3's pathetic RAM is the cause of our limited choices, particularly in regards to the horns. It, didn't, however, prevent the Devs from adding Au Ra altogether, so it's reasonable to assume the checks that tell other machines the look of an avatar are less intensive if it can check off race and which of 4-5 faces and so on than race and which 6-7 faces, etc.

It's hard to explain, but I guess searching a shorter list of options spread amoung more raves is easier to load.

It's quite interesting actually that Elves, which are one of THE most popular fantasy races across the world ever, are one of the least popular races in this game. Honestly? I think that's execution more than fantasy at fault.

The Elves in this game are too disproportionate/clunky (shoulders too wide, heads too small), which is unappealing to most. They aren't slender, graceful, beauties.
The kind of race I'd like to see is exactly that though... a beautiful, mature race. I don't really care if it's a cat or a bunny or whathaveyou. I just don't want cute. Not sure why everyone is assuming just because Viera is a bunny race it will be cute (Miqo'te) and not mature (Elezen)...

Or screw that and give us more options for existing content ♥

Also, "lolwtf" at the comment that this game oversexualizes the races. This is the most tame MMO I've ever seen.
