I went in knowing I was going to main healer, so obviously I started WHM, and thought it was great. Then 2.1 came around and I decided I wanted to try Scholar since everyone and their mothers were WHMs. And leveling Scholar was awesome and I mained it from 2.1 all the way to 3.2, where nearing the end of the patch I was bored and I leveled up AST and I have no regrets about switching to them. AST is by far the most fun I've had in this game, so much to keep track of but it's still so manageable. Plus space and time magic.

Though if the expansion adds either a Red Mage or Dancer healer, you better know I'm jumping ship to either of them lol.
