I was doing that during Betas and when the game was still fresh. I made hundred of thousand with only that.Because the game "creates" gils. The more you play, the more gils you have, the more you'll accept to pay and the more prices will go up.
It's also because some people are stupid.
In FFXI and XIV, people have literally bought gear from an NPC, and put it on the market for twice the price. And it sold !
Then did the same when housing was released. I remember buying 5 stables ( Which are worth 120k each ) and sold them 500k gil each.
Yes, it seems like a lot of people don't know that many items can be bought from vendors and that some items can be sold to vendors for more than the MB.
For example, on our server I often seen materia on the MB being sold for 100 or 200 gil. But the same materia sells to vendors for 600+ gil.
And people sell vendor items for 2 or 3 times the price on the MB and people actually do buy them!
That is another thing, though.
Selling on the MB for less than vendor is a "nice" move. If you sell your materias to a vendor, they're just gone.
If you don't need those 600+ gils, you just give "poor" players access to materia for a really cheap price.
Actually, it's the other way round. You buy gils because the items cost a lot. But there's no reason to ask for such a high price.
It worked in FFXI because, on top of selling gils, RMT linkshells managed to achieve monopoly on some really rare items. So they were able to set a ridiculous price, for which you'd "have" to buy gils. This shouldn't happen in FFXIV, since anyone can supply anyone if they want... There's no reason to even buy gils...
In fact, in buying gils, you just purposely avoid doing things that the game offer...and then come complaining that the game has nothing for you to do![]()

It's players based. We in the US have a higher Gil amount and thus things cost more really. If you just get one crafter high enough or know how to play the market you can make a few Mil easy. Heck you can make 100k-140k weekly with the grade 5 matirea for weekly raid runs.
Although if people all started selling to vendor then you would see MB price jump. I sell everything on market very rarely will I vendor something, especially low craft mats as some new people don't know where to get them from. For example, on our server I often seen materia on the MB being sold for 100 or 200 gil. But the same materia sells to vendors for 600+ gil.
100-140k ? They still average around 500k on our server :PIt's players based. We in the US have a higher Gil amount and thus things cost more really. People wants make 1000000000000000000 gil in one day.
Do you think
And the prices are so high because people pay them. Even with RMT Gil. If people would not buy them with RMT Gil, the item seller would have to audjust the price down to sell it at all.You buy gils because the items cost a lot.

Here's the thing, though - Gil is "made" via quests, challenge log, vendoring items and dungeons, with roulettes and AiN giving a huge bonus chunk. Gil flows out of the system via NPCs - items, melding, repairing, house/chamber permits etc. The rest is distribution among the players.
From the above, you can already deduce that the gil inflow into the system is dominated by DoW/DoM. Do an expert -> 19,6k gil more in the system (3,5 per person plus 5000 for the AiN). 60s dungeons - similar deal. Mhach pushes 108k gil into the system (24x4500). And I'm just counting repeatable stuff here, not daily bonis. There's also the New Adventurer bonus for first-time clears. Sure, that's all spread over the servers - but even just a fraction of the money is more than most crafters contribute in terms of gil creation.
All this money however is distributed from DoW/DoM to DoH via crafting exclusive items. And from there, money primarily goes to DoL instead of back to DoW/DoM, because crafters rely more on DoL than DoW/DoM mats. DoW/DoM in turn hardly need anything DoL have to offer.
That doesn't really have anything to do with prices, though. I'm just trying to point out that giving DoW/DoM even more money doesn't actually change anything - they already are the driving factor behind gil creation. They're just getting the short end of the stick in the following distribution.
