I play on PS3 and can't afford to upgrade. Here's hoping Japanese players can convince him to keep it going.

Agreed with all but the veteran rewards. They can't keep making them until the lifespan of the game. All people should get the equal opportunity to become veterans.I'll start by saying I've already lost interest in this game and will be canceling my sub as soon as I finish the main story quest in 3.4. I may come back for the story of 3.5 for 1 month sub. (Stopping veteran rewards gives me no reason to stay subbed anymore, good call on that SE). And if I see that 4.0 continues to support the ps3 I won't be back for the expansion. I'll give it a look if I hear they have dropped support. This game can't change or improve in any significant way until it is dropped.

So you're dropping the game over an unfounded, false rumor? Kay, great idea.I'll start by saying I've already lost interest in this game and will be canceling my sub as soon as I finish the main story quest in 3.4. PS4 will be really cheap now! You can even try to exchange your PS3 to get an even cheaper 2nd hand PS4. Here (in spain) you can get a PS4 for less than 200€, and if you give your PS3 you get it even cheaper (I've seen 150€, with a controller).
I know there's people playing still on PS3, but we really need game improvements or this game will stagnate :/

In otherwords, Japan clings to its old consoles like barnacles. That's the point Catwho is trying to make - that FFXIV COULD stubbornly continue to support PS3 until they are literally the only developer left on the planet still doing so.I think you misunderstood me.
Seekers of Adoulin was the absolute, very last game EVER released for the PS2 in the Asian market, not just the last XI expansion. The NA market had a FIFA Brazil came come out a little earlier that was the absolute last game. But Seekers of Adoulin was the VERY LAST PS2 GAME RELEASED ON THE PLANET. Kind of a dubious honor.
Certainly the fact that SE has gone for this long without a firm decision on the matter implies to me that it's very unlikely that PS3 will be dropped for the next expansion. They need to give players adequate lead time, so that folks still playing on PS3 will have time to decide what to do - including, possibly, to scrimp and save enough to buy a PS4, if that's what it takes, or update their computer to the point where it will be able to run the game.
As for folks crying that the PS3 is holding the game back, however, I think you both overestimate how much it's actually doing so, and how much SE will invest in updating the game if they were to remove support for PS3. For the most part, "PS3 limitations" do not impact what SE decides to add to the game. All it impacts is the PS3 player, who misses out on certain features, and in general has a lower quality of play.
It is also wrong to suggest that SE will implement a wealth of updates once PS3 is gone, simply because they still want to cater to as much of the PC market as possible - and that includes computers with even less power than the PS3 has. Middle- and upper-class players tend to overestimate the ability of poorer people to keep their PC up to snuff, and I'd guess that a non-negligible portion of the game's subscription base is from a population who hasn't updated or replaced their computer in a decade. Certainly a larger portion of the subscription base than SE stands to lose by NOT upgrading beyond the capabilities of those older PCs...

Everyone did have equal opportunity to be a veteran: they just had to play the game from release. If you were late to the party you were late. The veteran rewards exist to thank players who show longtime loyalty to the game. If you haven't been there from the very start then of course you'll be behind on the veteran rewards, that's the entire point of them.

I'd say PS3 is actually holding back FFXIV and it also affects other players!...
How, you ask!?... Well, before the PS4 version it was a common thing for people to complain about ridiculous load times for whatever duty while playing on their PS3, we would wait for several minutes before some of the affected people would finally show up in the duty!...
In any case PS4 should drop in price quickly once the Pro version is made available and there won't be any reason to keep playing on the weaker and much older PS3!...![]()
The new price of the PS4 slim already been announced and will be $299, don't see it getting much cheaper then that.
