Only for Japan, if person lived in NA the last expansion they got was Wings of the Goddess if they played on the PS2.Obligatory reminder that FFXI had the distinction of Seekers of Adoulin being the last ever PS2 game released in Japan.

I think you misunderstood me.
Seekers of Adoulin was the absolute, very last game EVER released for the PS2 in the Asian market, not just the last XI expansion. The NA market had a FIFA Brazil came come out a little earlier that was the absolute last game. But Seekers of Adoulin was the VERY LAST PS2 GAME RELEASED ON THE PLANET. Kind of a dubious honor.

In otherwords, Japan clings to its old consoles like barnacles. That's the point Catwho is trying to make - that FFXIV COULD stubbornly continue to support PS3 until they are literally the only developer left on the planet still doing so.I think you misunderstood me.

Certainly the fact that SE has gone for this long without a firm decision on the matter implies to me that it's very unlikely that PS3 will be dropped for the next expansion. They need to give players adequate lead time, so that folks still playing on PS3 will have time to decide what to do - including, possibly, to scrimp and save enough to buy a PS4, if that's what it takes, or update their computer to the point where it will be able to run the game.
As for folks crying that the PS3 is holding the game back, however, I think you both overestimate how much it's actually doing so, and how much SE will invest in updating the game if they were to remove support for PS3. For the most part, "PS3 limitations" do not impact what SE decides to add to the game. All it impacts is the PS3 player, who misses out on certain features, and in general has a lower quality of play.
It is also wrong to suggest that SE will implement a wealth of updates once PS3 is gone, simply because they still want to cater to as much of the PC market as possible - and that includes computers with even less power than the PS3 has. Middle- and upper-class players tend to overestimate the ability of poorer people to keep their PC up to snuff, and I'd guess that a non-negligible portion of the game's subscription base is from a population who hasn't updated or replaced their computer in a decade. Certainly a larger portion of the subscription base than SE stands to lose by NOT upgrading beyond the capabilities of those older PCs...

If we look at other games Destiny just dropped PS3 support with the latest expansion. So if other devs are doing it FFXIV could do it as well add more features if they drop PS3.

The Producer said it depends of the demands of players, that means if we ask with determination, firmness and persistence we will force SE to comply and gives a better product!...
PS3 could no longer be supported because the hardware requirements of current games are beyond it's capabilities!...
On a personal note I abandoned my PS3 and console gaming in favor of a new PC which offers way more quality than consoles could ever hope for, since PC is always ahead of them and limited only by the budget willing to be spent on hardware!...![]()
I play on PS3 and can't afford to upgrade. Here's hoping Japanese players can convince him to keep it going.

PS4 will be really cheap now! You can even try to exchange your PS3 to get an even cheaper 2nd hand PS4. Here (in spain) you can get a PS4 for less than 200€, and if you give your PS3 you get it even cheaper (I've seen 150€, with a controller).
I know there's people playing still on PS3, but we really need game improvements or this game will stagnate :/

You don't need PlayStation Plus to play Final Fantasy XIV on PS4.
And I might add playing it on a PS3 is simply missing a lot the game has to offer. I started on PS3 and there is no way I'd go back to that laggy, low quality (resolution) version of the game. As a matter of fact I wasn't happy going back to the PS3 version after playing the PS4 Beta and had to cause the PS4 version wasn't out yet.
Simply put the PS3 had problems playing many of the games in the previous generation let alone what gaming has to offer now. I'm sure SE has firm numbers on how many people are still playing the older version and I suspect when those numbers get low enough they'll push the older version aside.
