So in other words, support stops when PS3 limitations finally become too much of an issue for the dev team. I wasn't aware this wasn't a thing. Regardless of popular consensus, I'd be surprised if Yoshida continues support through 4.0. They would have to support PS3 throughout the next expansion due to PS3 players having bought the same game as everybody else. Even with a massive disclaimer on the box, cutting PS3 support mid expansion would not look near as good, PR wise, as opposed to the start of a new one.

As a former PS3 and a current PC and PS4 owner, I think they really need to discontinue the PS3 port.

I dont make gobs of money and I actually saved up for three months so that I could buy a PS4 over a year and a half ago. The PS3 is so limiting with what it can do.

I personally believe if they cut the reigns of the PS3, we could have so many more available options available to us.

Didn't yoshi say during the HW livestream that putting HW on ps3 was a last minute decision and it wasn't originally planned to be on ps3?

I think the remaining ps3 population is mostly in Japan

Help me source this if possible so I can update the main post. I found another reference online, but not the source. I believe you, I just want hard verification with a tangible source.

I think at the end it realy depends on the amount of Japanese players that are still playing on their PS3. If you have noticed, Japanese games that are released for the PS4/PC only in the West are often also released for PS3 aswell in Japan. This shows that in Japan the PS3 is still being used by a large group of players, if FFXIV has a large group of players from Japan who do not want to upgrade to a PS4, then I doubt Yoshi-P will discontinue the PS3 version of FFXIV of the next expansion.

Japanese developers already begin to drop out the PS3.
    Example:
While GUST still brought out Atelier Sophie on PS3, PS4 and Vita in Japan, the soon coming Aelier Firis will be even in Japan only on PS4 and Vita

The sooner the PS3 support dies the better. Having gamed extensively with a PS3 player who then changed to PS4 I can confidently say that their experience was hampered & mine was negatively affected. Waiting for them to swap zones in instances, having them unable to see things like hunts, etc didn't make for a fun time.

Think it was more along the lines of he wanted to drop it but woulda left too many ppl without a platform to play HW on, on that same note he felt that giving ppl an expansion's worth of time to upgrade seemed reasonable. No source though was one of the letters/event a little before HW launch. (least that's the meaning i got outta it, keep in mind Japanese culture doesn't say hard no for anything so negative connotations are as close to a "no" as we might see)

also as far as improvements, unless 4.0 is being developed with ps3 off the board right off the bat, i mostly just see ui/memory, maybe some zone improvements being the bulk of the "immediate" improvements.

Obligatory reminder that FFXI had the distinction of Seekers of Adoulin being the last ever PS2 game released in Japan.
