Considering how those islands are made, the requirement ought to be "here go fight Bismarck and feed him this laxative"

Can see why it would appeal to some people, but I've always preferred housing that doesn't feel cut off from the world. Instanced zones (what we have now) is about as far removed as I'd enjoy. I'd rather houses were right in the middle of town, an apartment building at the very least.

I'd love to have my own floating island in the Sea of Clouds surely but I must admit I like housing as it is now, otherwise it might not feel as "lively", to never see any neighbor around would make it feel kind of dead and I wouldn't hope SE to put much effort in making it after what they did with the lazy apartment buildings, I was expecting something bigger and better, like a whole floor up for sale and a nice view from atop, none of which happened!...
I guess we will have a better idea of what they can make after they add the Ishgard housing area!...
To make it worth to me those instanced floating islands would have to be really big, like a whole ward and allow us to make things never seen before like building my dream floating castle!...![]()
They can just take the land from Diadem, seeing as no one is using it... >w>Wasn't the story behind the islands that there's only so many of them that they can afford to give away? Like they even hesitated on allowing for the tiny landmass in the Bismarck fight, if I recall right. Similar tone of NPC speech with that Vanu tribe being given a tiny island with the beastmen quests.
I mean the concept is brilliant, since the scenery would be nice (if the clouds/sky are your thing), and would enjoy it myself. I just don't think it makes much sense lorewise, unless I'm mistaken on the scarcity of the floating islands.
That sounds really good! I want my own island in the sky!![]()
I guess you could say that letting everyone spend 800k gil on a single room apartment with extremely limited item space and customization is... better. But not by very much. That's a very neat idea, I like it. However it doesn't seem like unlimited instanced housing is coming ever. The current system keeps getting a little better with each update. It's possible that the number of apartments available in patch 3.4 will actually be too many for low population worlds. Only the highest population worlds are going to still have problems.
@OP: I love the idea. Gah they need to just copy WildStar's housing system in its entirely as far as functionality goes. >_<!
Thank you all for the friendly replies! I am really glad to see this idea so well received!
I would like to say that this will of course be a very far-off thing if it ever comes into the game, and I do believe that ps3 support is being dropped for 4.0, so after that I am sure their technical capabilities will increase.
I do believe some solid things that would be nice to see: increased garden plots, ability to enter with a party of others, upgrade-able/custom island shape/size or features upon it.
I believe islands could be a possible feature in game that could be a long-term investment/time-sink. As far as upgrading them in size, features, the house upon it; or other things which could make having an island less of a static thing like buying a house plot is; and more of a progressive end-game content.
As far as Ishgardian housing goes; this could very well be Ishgard's form of apartments. Instead of an apartment building; perhaps an airship dock could guide players to their floating islands?
