Funny thing is I played WoW until Cataclysm. From what I hear, people had very mixed feelings about Mists of Pandaria, while Warlords of Draenor(sp?) was a complete disaster and nothing short of single patch of content. Although, I have a friend who currently plays Legion and says it is very fun and redeeming of Blizzard's past screw-ups. All that aside, I want to be excited with new content, instead of the same predictable routine. Remember when Ninja was released? Amazing huh? I'm not asking for a new job, though. Just something fresh that breaks their (and our) routine.

Well, but WoW only gets a X-Pac every 2 years. What's in the time between where we are now? I can tell you.

With Cataclysm you got 14 dungeons for 21 months until MoP.
With MoP you got 9 dungeons for 25 months until WoD.
With WoD you got 8 dungeons for 21 months until Legion.
With Legion you got 10 dungeons which you gonna play now until october/November 2018 or something.

For Heavensward alone we got 16 dungeons in the last 15 months and we will get another 4-6(?) until the new X-Pac.

WoW had 4 years of "bad game" and recently came back because they did one X-Pac good... you want Square Enix to change there established System just to "suprise" people more?! Well, no thanks.
To be honest, I get to often suprised by video game companies delivering crap that I'm happy that there is one company you can rely on.

    ________

Also: This is a patch. Not a X-Pac.. if you take WoW as comparison than expect changes and additions to FF14 only every 2 years (like WoW does) and don't demand them every patch.

The thing about FFXIV is that we are offered patch updates with all too predictable content. We know that we are getting A B and C every even or odd patch. Is that bad? Not necessarily. This current method of how they release patches assures their playerbase on what to expect in the forthcoming months. However, this starts to become very monotonous and well, too predictable. If I take a break in 3.4 and return for 3.5, more likely then not, I wouldn't be asking myself: "Hmm what's new in FFXIV." It would be more along the lines of: "How does the final Shadows of Mhach raid look?" Because, you know, we already know purposes of the 3.1, 3.3, and 3.5.

The purpose of my post is not to display disappointment towards the content I have yet to play. I've no doubt Alexander will be fun, the story will be amazing, and the Primal will be awesome for a month or so. Rather, I am underwhelmed because of the same old song and dance of "new features" being added that are actually becoming passed off or masked as new content. In other words, ask yourself this: Is a relic weapon actually new content if you have to constantly grind previous patched dungeons and raids? Is a new pop-up-book-UI-thingy actually new content if said NPC sends you to clear old Coil and (more) dungeons for rewards?

We already lost 1 dungeon per patch so SE could work on new stuff like Diadem and Palace of the Dead.
If we want more different content it'll mean more sacrifices of the content we're used to.

Would that be worth it? Depends on the person I guess. I'd rather that SE kept producing the "pattern"-I love getting regular new story quests, sidestory quests, dungeons, trials, ect. every patch. I would be disappointed if say, SE didn't add a new trial one patch to gamble on a new feature that didn't work out.

Ideally SE would be able to produce all the old favourites alongside a whole new feature each patch. Sadly it doesn't seem like the development team is large enough to pull it off.

theres nothing different from any other major patch we've gotten, Which is why I stopped playing like I use to. Its going to be the same rehashed content that'll lose its flare the 1st 2 weeks.

I'm pretty excited for most of it and we shouldn't have to wait to long for the 3.45 for relics and other things probably like 2 weeks or so like all the other patches

That's not true. Games of this scale usually have 300-400 people working on it (excluding server maintance people, support and others, with them number should be around 700-800). And I don't understand how it takes 3 months for, let's say, 100-150 people to develop 2 dungeons, 1 trial and 4 raid bosses and another 100 people and 3 months to develop same-old mechanics with new colors.

That is the reason why people complain and aren't satisfied.

I highly doubt that FFXIV has a team comprising of 20% of the total employee count of Square Enix.
