How does PVP work in other MMO?

Just out of curiosity tbh. This is my first Mmo and I cannot get my head round to the fact that I've been QIing for over 5 hours and no pop in any of the PvP related stuff.

This somehow needs sorting it can not be possible that I can not do PvP as much as I would like to.

As a non PVP fan its lacking, but improving with dueling... now we just need the dueling option to work anywhere in the world including dungeons

note: PVP wasn't intended for this game until fans requested it.

What are you trying to queue for?

PvP in FFxiv was shoehorned into the game post-script, so they've really been making it up as they go along. As a side effect, the community who enjoy and regularly queue is quite small, and only certain content is still active. Wolves Den is (mostly) dead, with the exception of specific community organized queue times. Secure, Slaughter, and Seize are also (mostly) dead, because SE did not provide adequate incentives to keep them alive. Secure and Slaughter were not increased to lvl 60, so no one at that level queues for them. Shatter is widely considered to be the absolute worst PvP game mode that SE has ever come up with, so it kind of destroyed community interest. Seize was, and still is, a solid game mode ... but Shatter kind of replaced it, so no one queues for that either (which is sad, because it's much better than Shatter). GC restrictions also contribute to slow queues, as not all GC's are equally populated, and you can get stuck in limbo waiting for all 3 teams to fill up.

Feast, on the other hand, queues regularly (Dps get the slowest queues, as usual). It does not suffer from GC restrictions, like Frontlines does. It's a first come, first served system, so queues are substantially faster. That said, the only game mode of it that is currently active is the 4v4 solo-ranked. Your best bet for an active queue is in there, but be warned: matches are ranked, and the game mode is a proper, PvP, competitive, team-based, game. It contributes to a more exclusive and far less welcoming crowd. Be prepared for veterans to chew you out if you make mistakes.

Need to queue during prime times for Feast. Or play Healer.

If you want Frontlines to pop Adders have the fastest queue times and you need to queue in ENGLISH only. Do not do Frontlines roulette.

Were numbers invented or discovered? How many Moogles does it take to make Kuponut rum? Answer: zero... They will give you a quest to make it.

Feast's only queue issue is role divisions. In that regard, it's similar to almost every other content in the game. Tanks have relatively decent queue times. Average wait during prime time hours is maybe 5-15 minutes, depending on the total number of players and how many matches are in progress and what the average rank of those players are. Healers are damn near instantly queued. Dps, on the other hand, are a dime a dozen. They outnumber tank and healers 10-1, so they have, by far, the greatest wait time, even during prime time.

For Frontlines, sadly, there's not a lot that can be done. GC restrictions shoot the entire game mode in the foot. Adders are unanimously the least popular GC in the mix, so they're the least populated. For that reason, they typically have the fastest queue. Flames come in second place, most of the time. Maelstrom are the most populated (most people prefer their GC outfits and colours), so they have the longest queue out of the 3. You're on the NA servers, so prime time is roughly evenings (8-12 ish), going on eastern time. As Miyuki mentioned, make sure you're queuing in English and NEVER use the roulette. If even one person is queued for dead content (such as Secure or Slaughter), then you run the risk of being caught in a dead queue. That might change if SE ever decides to create lvl 60 versions of Secure and Slaughter and tweak the roulette as a lvl 60 Frontlines Roulette (highly doubtful), but for now it's safer to always direct queue for the game mode you want.

You should also keep in mind that the queue timer for PvP content is wildly inaccurate. In Frontlines, the average wait time is divided across 3 GC's that have totally different wait times, so the actual wait could be much shorter or much longer than what it actually says. In Feast, it's even more complicated because of rank divisions. The game does try (and fails) to balance ranks across teams, so queue times can get a little skewed depending on how many players are playing and what ranks they're at.

If it's Frontlines, it doesn't surprise me. Shatter really did put a nail in the coffin of that game mode. It has been almost unanimously disliked across the community, because it is far too PvE focused instead of PvP focused. Seize had much faster queues, by comparison.

Yeah I kind of jump for joy when seal rock pops. Shatter is kinda meh. I could tolerate it if it was possible to get some seal rock in between shatter.

Regarding ops post. You just have to play during peak times. And you need to pick the lose gc like me. I'm mael on aether and during peak hours front lines is about 10 mins queue. Back when we played seal rock, it was insta queue pop sometimes. On certain days I could even get matches as late as midnight pst. No more though.

Like Februs said. Front lines not so popular now cuz of shatter.
