Just started playing the game after waiting for a few years

Welp hello, I've been watching the game for the past 5 years and finally decided it was time to play the game. I come from the EVE Community(TEST(Dreddit)) && WoT. I picked Warrior as my starting class since I like where it leads to. Any "new player" tips that I should know of?

Since I play a good few hours every other day, grinding for certain things or finishing quests should not be a problem for me.

Hello and welcome to the game!

As you're just starting out and leveling your first class (and later job), it's a good idea to just follow the main scenario quest, as they'll show you the main story of the game and also unlock most of content and features in the game. In addition to that, remember to do your class quests (at your class guild) every 5 levels. When you'll get to level 10 you'll be able to unlock other classes and equip cross-class abilities on your Gladiator.

As you will be taking the tank role in the group content of the game, try to keep your gear and especially weapon up to date for dungeons (first one unlocked around level 15). Don't be afraid to tell your party you're new and ask and take advice. You can also ask questions here on the forums.

I wish you great adventures in Eorzea!

Do the Yo-kai Watch events while they're still around. Great way to gain EXP.

Thank You, I already know about the every 5 levels there's a class quest. Didn't know about the Level 10 cross class part.

It's a seasonal event going on right now: http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/special/2016/youkai-watch

There's also a megathread for it on these forums: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...gathread-Guide

You can start it after reaching level 15 if you wish, but there are many other ways to gain exp and you're in fact likely to outlevel our main scenario just following the most straightworward path.

The yo-kai event doesn't give anything special, just a few minions (some are cute, but there's lots of others in the game) and some level 30 weapons (no better than the typical level 30 weapons you'd get otherwise) and a hidously ugly mount.

The XP isn't an issue. You'll be getting more XP than you have any use for on your first class, and plenty on your second. Only if you try leveling up all your other classes after completing the quests on your first class or two do you get any reason to actually look for more XP. You won't get to that point for a while and the event is almost over.

When starting off in FFXIV, I'd focus on this game's activities rather than a temporary cross-over event based off a completely different game.

Plenty, but ill stick to just a few.

Follow the main scenario storyline quests, they show you the world(and unlock a lot of doors for you).
Ask for help when you need it.
    Have fun.

Bonus forum tip! You can get around the character limit. Type out everything you want to say, copy your text to the clipboard, delete some to get under the character limit, submit your post, then you can immediately edit it and paste back in what you had to delete. Boom! Limits dodged.

Been following Storyline quests, running around the world has gotten me some stuff and nearly died a few times from aggro high ll stuff.

The forum tip is something i knew for a while from other forums that have a limit. Knowing that it works here is nice.
