I have worked in IT development for 3 decades, you don't cut functionality by 80% vs planned unless there is/was a significant issue. think about it, the number of apartments being opened is less than a fifth of the number we were originally told. I'm not expecting perfection, but that is a really significant change. I'd just like someone from the Dev team to explain so we can stop speculating or throwing hyperbole around.

~Present home owners in Eorzea, please do not purchase an apartment during the 1st week of their availability at least. Give others a chance of owning their own space please.

I think you just answered your own question as to the probable why? I've only worked in IT (Development and Networking) for two decades myself and I envy you though if you've never had to do something drastically difference because of technical issues or even management/budget issues.

Speculating what...? Why there only 90 per building now instead of the 512 that were planned back in January? Does it matter? We're getting 90. They don't need to tell where they came up with 90 or why it's changed from the originally mentioned 512 other than satisfy some curiosity.

But if we are speculating, I bet they're probably plan on increasing the number UP to 512 with each patch level, as needed. Maybe they didn't want to have massive gaps of empty apartments and would rather fill them all up, that would certainly look better! Maybe they were also worried about the impact/performance of each housing ward potentially having 500+ more people in it that weren't there before. Why knows? (well SE obviously... but focus more on the fact we have 90 rather than none at all!)

I'm not picking on you personally here, but I don't think it's does us (the players) any favours when we constantly throwing SE's own words back at them when something didn't turn out like originally mentioned. Maybe I'm just imagining it, but SE seem more and more reluctant to give us early information about things at all until they're set in stone and I think it's probably because everytime they do and have to change their mind (for whatever reason!) we all get out the pitchforks... "BUT YOU SAID...."

I have a house of my own already and I can certainly get behind this sentiment.

Edit: Although, it won't be an issue on Mateus. More than half of the houses are available, we are the smallest server after all. I'm sure there will be plenty of apartments available to.

"Furthermore, apartments are not subject to auto-demolition."

That part is quite tempting. I've small house from last house area update and if I go to break, I might lose my house and have nowhere to go afterwards.

Kinda wish they'd either remove auto-demolish from houses as well, or greatly increase the timer. Current 45 days is extremely short.

My guess is it's a change in vision, instead of technical issues.

The original vision sounded like a separate ward, that functioned like the door to private chambers inside a FC house. Tiny zone, 512 people sharing one MB, one chocobo stable, and one summoning bell.

The new vision sounds like it's there to spread out people in the existing housing wards, making them a little more relevant.

If it were like an FC mansion with 512 chambers, it would be logical, and would not requires anything beyond the server support needed for a large FC house...

Indeed, as I said to Tint, that's a pretty plausible reason for it. If it does bring some life to the wards/subdivisions it will be a good thing.
