So what's up with the violence against chocobos in Tailfeather?

I barely started the Tailfeather quests, and I find these hunters disgusting. They reference using pitfalls to catch and end up injuring the chocobos. There's a questline to kill a Chocobo who's fighting back and freeing caged chocobos. The last quest for this is called, "Chocobo's Last Stand". Another see's a hunter kill a mother and take the eggs. I never thought Naoki Yoshida would be this savage towards a beloved FF mascot like this. Can't wait to be done with these savage town.

What? Tailfeather is actually quite humane. The hunter who killed the mother and took the eggs was literally exiled from the town because the town does not support that behavior. And yeah there might be some minor injuries to a Chocobo from falling down a 1 meter or so pitfall, but the worst that could happen is probably some bruising. Tailfeather would never actively use a method of capturing Chocobo's that does serious harm to it since the birds are captured to be sold as riding and racing Chocobos. It is unfortunate that you have to put down a Chocobo. But when it's effecting your business and putting human life at risk, it needs to be done. A humans life is more important that a Chocobos.

What's up with all those companies massively killing Cows, Pigs, Fish to make burgers bacons and fish nuggets? Oh wait we are talking about Tailfeather. Chocobos are wild animals just like any other you see. You can capture them and use them as pets or transport means or kill them for food. Just because they are cute doesn't mean anything. This game would more realistic and "savage" if it wasn't an MMORPG which has to pass certain legal ratings in order to reach a wider audience. Naoki is hiding the more "mature" side of this world in sidequests and references and he also implies many things which would be really brutal to see straight on. Eorzea seems like a Disney park cute and fun until you realise it isn't. It is brutal and savage and always faces mass extinctions and huge catastrophes. A chocobo that would hurt a little with some bruises is absolutely normal and not savage at all.

I tend to just run away instead of fighting them to either their or my death. Then again, I'm usually only there for gathering purposes, and a fight would most likely kill me and not the chocobo

On a more serious note though:
I treat chocobos like I treat real life animals - being 'cute' doesn't make them safe. I eat cute bunnies and guinea pigs and duckies just the same as chicken or cows.
The no-food rule only extends to an individual animal because of a shared bond as my 'friend' (pet).
So ingame, I'd never even think of eating Jiro, my personal chocobo, and I kill everything that so much as puts a scratch on him, but all other chocobo are fair game.
