    Help with "Movement Settings"

My issue is related to camera and character movement. Pretty much it seems to me as if I have two options when using a controller:

    1) the camera is fixed to my back, but the character's movements are limited to forward, back, left right. Back is especially awkward. (Standard)
    2) The camera has a mind of it's own, but I'm able to move my character around as I would expect. That is to say my character faces movement. (Legacy)

I've tried getting use to one or the other, but so far have failed.

Looking this up online came back with mixed results. Some seem to say that there is a way around it, others say I'm SOL. I asked some people in the game, and they said it can be done, but weren't sure as to how.

Work arounds are also welcome. I'm using a Steam Controller, so I do have a fair bit of customization. For example, I've tried having a right click toggle button. This does provide the camera/character movement behavior I desire, but it really messed up the UI.

edit: The camera and character move as I expect when in first person mode...but then I'm first person mode. That has it's own issues. I was trying to work through this with someone a bit ago, and he wasn't having the issues I described. So what is wrong?

First thing as a caster you will want to turn auto lock off (at your level book thwacking is unnecessary, and getting patched so its range only requirement) and make sure automatic face target is on (Targeting Tab) this may be whats causing your mind of its own camera controls in legacy settings as they are camera based, and when locked on your camera revolves around your target not your character.

Note you cannot run backwards in this game which is baked into Standard, backpeddling . (there are ways to fudge it with keyboard users which are getting removed in the next update, mechanically and aesthetically you just can't though)

In Legacy the movement follows the camera not the character, so it is moving you towards whatever direction related to the edge of your current camera view. So if you are locked on it moves you in relation to your lockon target. Additionally if you have Auto-fly checked it tries to maintain the camera behind your character as you move (so you probably want that off).

Rather than the camera having a mind of its own, I'd describe this as controlling your character with one hand and the camera with the other. Using both analog sticks together gives you full control. (I'm using a PS4 controller, and am not familiar with the Steam ones. If it's compatible with the game, though, I'm assuming that means it has equivalent buttons/analog sticks.)

You've stated that you don't like the available versions, but could you clarify how you'd like it to work?

Yes, this is what I was saying in my opening post. I do not care for either behavior. Thank you for that other bit, though that wasn't part of my question. I'm always looking for "quality of life" improvements.

I had to cut A LOT out of my opening post due to post length limitations. I want my character to walk forward, facing the direction I specify with the left stick. You get this with Legacy controls. I also want the camera to remain fixed unless I move it. You get this with Standard controls.

edit: As I mentioned in my opening thread, I can get the desired behavior by setting movement type to Legacy and then holding down the right mouse buttons. However, holding down the right mouse button (via a toggle) messes up the UI.

you can exceed the 1000 character limit by copying your message and posting a placeholder message (10 or more chars) and then edit/paste.

Thanks! That is very good to know.
