Removing unaccessed lvl1 characters

And I'm referring to lvl1 characters that only made it as far as the opening cutscene only to NEVER log in again. I'm finding this more common on alts, as opposed to people who've played on trial (I'd assume playing on trial will get you well beyond level 1.) and subbed as a result; that's how I ended up playing XIV.

I'm aware character removal in general is a touchy subject, probably having been implemented in other MMOs, but the way I see it, it's a level one character, fresh to the game, that say, hasn't been accessed in months to a year, maybe even more. Why bother? It can free up potential names and space (although I can't say how much space a character with no sufficient levels even takes up.)

What do you guys think?

If they haven't been playing in a very long time, sure. Otherwise, no. I'm talking 2-3 years here. Maybe a year minimum.

I'm guilty of this. I have 2 alts I never play, but are name placeholders for me, just in case I do want to create a proper alt in the future.

I'm saving one of my characters in case they introduce a leveling potion so I don't have to slog all the way through level 50 again.

Indeed, they have no impact on character creation on a server, only the number of concurrent users will impact that. They don't affect anyone in any way - unless of course someone wants to get back into that discussion about character names, but in that regard, first come first served should apply.

The server population only really depends on how many people are logged on. You can still get on Balmung and Gilgamesh if you can find a time when there's no log-in queue.

Probably because they want to have a specific (popular) name, but its taken by that lv1 char

Characters should never be removed except by user or if they commit an offense.
