Forgot about that penalty they had a long time ago, haven't heard anything about is sense I played during beta and it slipped my mind. I played FFXI on ps2 for 4ish years I think before switching over to a new computer and don't remember ever having problems with gear changing speeds, then again it was a long time ago. On my computer I never used the 3rd party programs that swapped all your gear on a single macro, I had 2-3 macros for some spells on RDM and BLM just for a single cast, would hit the main gear macros then have the staff/grip/waist on the spell macro. Kept my fingers moving and gave me a rushing feel while playing mage jobs, was always hitting something on my keyboard.

Sorry I derailed your thread a tad bit Meowy, I would have to agree that it would be nice not have to blink for 10-15 sec to change classes.

Yoshi has already said he did NOT want the ability to swap gear in battle like n XI to be available. It was an absolute ridiculous concept anyway! "I'm about to go HADUKEN on his ass, but wait, I must change my pants!".

I agree the 1sec wait can be annoying as is the forced character standstill while runnong and changing gear. But please no pant change battles!

That kind of perspective can be said about almost everything in the game lol

The delay has absolute nothing to do with gear swapping restrictions anyway due to the stat debuff you get from changing during battle. So it has to do with something else, maybe they dont want spamming, idk?

i assume the delay was intended so multiple action commands worked, but since you cant queue abilities anymore it makes it a bit mute.

It's moot (which means deprived of practical significance), not mute (which means unable to speak).

Actually there is not a /wait in between macro lines. What's taking so long is that engine has to redraw your character in-between each piece of gear that is swapped and during that redraw you can not equip another piece of gear. That is why if you make a macro with all your gear swaps but without waits, you will get many pieces that will not equip. To actually make a gear macro fully function you have to include /wait in-between each line.

To test if there is a /wait in-between each line try making a macro that is:
    /echo line1
    /echo line2

They will both go off instantly...

I made all my class change macro with following equipment swap lines consecutively without manual /wait. It works all the time.

But the /echo lines do show up one by one very quickly, not seeming like there's a hidden 1 second between.

So is the ability to change classes just by switching my weapon.

"Oh you need me as a gladiator? K, lemme drop my axe and pick up a sword which will somehow give me ungodly prowess in the art of swordplay!"

The main problem is the fact the interface is serverside, so there's always going to be an innate delay, which is why this "hidden 1 second" exists, to allow the server to properly register it.

There definately is a wait between commands. But the macro system is broken and the wait is always different even if you manually set it. Changing the gear with the gear menu has no such delays.

Well you're hardly going to get "ungodly swordplay" with an axe are you?

Edit: Also you cannot change weapons/class in fight. It's not entirely ridiculous that if you change to using a sword from axe and you have previous experience you're gonna know how to ruddy use the thing.

Anyway the arguement is about changing equips mid-battle. which you can't, which you shouldnt, it's ridiculous
