My concern for gear swapping is how your character has to reload every time you make a switch, making your character invisible. If you make switching your entire gear set instant, people will use it like they did in FFXI, which is to say, before every action they take and after said action is complete.

In FFXI, this created a problem for console players because they could neither switch as much gear as PC users and it made targeting characters who were constantly gear swapping very difficult (which could mean messing up a life saving spell as a healer job). The PC had hacks that helped you deal with these problems, but console players were screwed.

If you expect the PS3 version to save 14's bacon, you really can't implement features that put them at a serious disadvantage to PC users, or ones that make gameplay awkward, such as a party full of untargetable, constantly reloading characters from all the gear swapping they're doing .

If they could make gear swapping work in a way that works equally smooth for PC and console users alike, then I have no problem with it. But I really think there are better ways to improve your character's performance than a Sailor Moon routine before every nuke and Provoke.

Swapping gear shouldn't affect the players visibility anyway. I'd go as far as calling this a bug. But currently the game has serious problems with invisible or misplaced characters anyway :P
And I don't think we need or want any mid-fight gearswapping. More like between fights to change from water to fire gear or from aoe dd to single target dd.
