As far as I can remember, Paladin need to have Gladiator leveled to 30 and Marauder to 15 in order to do the quest the quest to become a paladin.
Now all that info seems to have been switched to just needing gladiator.

Would you mind linking to the topic(s) in question? Last I heard, it was still the same GLA/MRD info we received recently. Curious if there is a new bit of information on the jobs that I missed.
Uhmmmmmmm source?
as source that i got is that
You level up Gladiator to 30. and maybe level up another job say Marauder to 15 to gain access to Paladin Quest, then once you've gone through the Paladin Quest, will be reward a Paladin Stone that will set your new role as a Tank. This stone can only be equip by Gladiator.
so far that what has been said by Yoshi in interviews. not sure if there is more
Gladiator is the base class. You "attach" the paladin job class onto your gladiator (You still use a sword for gladiator, xp obtained as a paladin goes towards gladiator). In essence, paladin is an advanced form of gladiator. This is how it's always been. I haven't seen anything that says marauder will NOT be needed to do the quest to unlock paladin (So, even though gladiator is the base class, you still need some marauder levels to do the initial quest).
Keep in mind even though we are getting information, everything is subject to change. While it may have been said Gladiator 30 and Marauder 15 they may decide to make it a single class only rather then 2 classes. Their's still 2 VUs to go before the actual job update so for all we know they may revamp the entire concept completly before releasing it.
He's probably referring to the fact that in the official english translation of the second live letter, any mention of MRD was removed, were as a few of the interviews prior to that (and some of the unofficial translations) had mentioned having MRD15
