Answer to the "I missed it"
Spoke with Battle Master Matsui to get the lowdown on the whole gear swapping question that's got you all buzzin'. In regards to swapping gear while in battle, since changing certain gear while in battle will change your class in FFXIV, we're not planning to make it possible to swap gear in battle. This direction will not change in the future.
We are focusing instead on making adjustments with the battle-related fixes to ensure that you can battle to your utmost ability without having to rely on changing gear multiple times mid-fight.
Just to clarify, I'm not asking for gear swap support during battle. Although I loved it in FFXI, this is a different game and is not designed to play the same way. As Eruantien already stated, changes in gear stats do not take effect until all claimed mobs are killed, if you change gear mid-fight.
I'm simply asking for instant gear changes between classes or, for example, swapping different gear sets in the middle of a dungeon (not while engaged or incurring enmity). At the moment it can take upwards of 10-15 seconds just to change from one class to another. This may seem like a short time, but when you're bound to one spot for that long just to change classes it can be pretty annoying.

Actually there is not a /wait in between macro lines. What's taking so long is that engine has to redraw your character in-between each piece of gear that is swapped and during that redraw you can not equip another piece of gear. That is why if you make a macro with all your gear swaps but without waits, you will get many pieces that will not equip. To actually make a gear macro fully function you have to include /wait in-between each line.
To test if there is a /wait in-between each line try making a macro that is:
/echo line1
/echo line2
They will both go off instantly...
This seems to be true for any type of chat, but as far as ability use and gear swapping goes, there is a wait between them.Actually there is not a /wait in between macro lines. You can change your gear faster by spamming your macro instead of hitting it just once. And when changing to a class that cant be your current gear, it all gets removed at once. It has nothing to do with the game needing to draw each piece before equipping the next (keep i mind the game has to draw "no gear" as well).
Whatever is causing it, I hope they fix/remove it.
Yoshi has already said he did NOT want the ability to swap gear in battle like n XI to be available. It was an absolute ridiculous concept anyway! "I'm about to go HADUKEN on his ass, but wait, I must change my pants!".
I agree the 1sec wait can be annoying as is the forced character standstill while runnong and changing gear. But please no pant change battles!
That kind of perspective can be said about almost everything in the game lol
The delay has absolute nothing to do with gear swapping restrictions anyway due to the stat debuff you get from changing during battle. So it has to do with something else, maybe they dont want spamming, idk?
So is the ability to change classes just by switching my weapon.
"Oh you need me as a gladiator? K, lemme drop my axe and pick up a sword which will somehow give me ungodly prowess in the art of swordplay!"
The main problem is the fact the interface is serverside, so there's always going to be an innate delay, which is why this "hidden 1 second" exists, to allow the server to properly register it.
There definately is a wait between commands. But the macro system is broken and the wait is always different even if you manually set it. Changing the gear with the gear menu has no such delays.

Well you're hardly going to get "ungodly swordplay" with an axe are you?
Edit: Also you cannot change weapons/class in fight. It's not entirely ridiculous that if you change to using a sword from axe and you have previous experience you're gonna know how to ruddy use the thing.
Anyway the arguement is about changing equips mid-battle. which you can't, which you shouldnt, it's ridiculous

Because as we've seen in real life, a gold-medal Olympic fencer is always the best at boxing as soon as they drop their sword put the gloves on. No need to practice, or anything!![]()
