Thread: Roles for Samurai, Red Mage, Dancer

So, the reveal of the new expansion is just a month away. Although the most we will learn regarding new jobs will likely just be another T-shirt, but discusssions are already underway about the possibilities.
After looking at wishlists, hints, arguments for and against possible future expansion settings, and thread titles 3 names came up top. Samurai, Red Mage, and Dancer. Sounds like a pretty good trio.
Now assuming that these are indeed the new jobs. And assuming further that each will have a different role, what will those roles be?

The easiest and most likely answer is:
Samurai as a tank. (Based on parry probably)
Red Mage as a our first sword wielding DPS
And Dancer as a healer

The least likely and pretty much impossible is:
Samurai as a healer
Red Mage as a tank
And Dancer as DPS

This version gives each the only role they can't possibly be good at.

My personal favorite is:
Samurai as a DPS
Red Mage as a healer
Dancer as a tank (based on dodge)

Red Mage might sound like a dumb choice for healer, but RM has always been a support class and they do have a buch of white magic spell to heal.

This is my preferred choice, I also wouldn't mind Dancer being a DPS. Personally I hate including Tank as any of the 3...because Tanks are so boring.

Agreed. Tank is my least favorite role. But we just don't have enough tanks. They are still the hardest to find in DF. Better make them interesting.

I'd rather wait a little longer so I can play DPS Samurai. Yoshi-P promised that it's gonna be a DPS. If it's a tank, I'll stay in offensive stance and play like a DPS and I don't care if the party will complain.

He didn't promise it, but he said he preferred it as DPS.

Personally, with the way our healers DPS more often than not, I'd be inclined to make the Red Mage a healer - they can even get heavier armor because chances are, it doesn't matter. Only the melee aspect would suffer a little.

I can't imagine dancer capturing the core fantasy of it without it being a DPS. It should be very mobile, because motion is what dancing is all about - something that tanks definitely should not do because every melee DPS would get a stroke and something that would most likely be OP on healers.

Samurai could work as either DPS or Tank - they are typically depicted in heavy armor, but the shirt wearing Samurai (preferably with a straw in the mouth) has also become widespread in media. Healing seems off - there are no associations of Samurai with mending.

I prefer tank samurai, healer dancer, DPS red mage

I'd quite like Dancer to be a "frontline" healer - utilising TP - they could have traits which increase their TP generation and it would make for a slightly different kind of healer.
