Walked away from game for a while, now I cant play! Even after reinstall!

SO I hadnt played for well over 6 months, tried to update and I kept getting the error 20619 during the installation of downloaded files. I am on Win 7 64 bit. I have removed all traced of Microsoft Security Essentials, I have uninstalled, twice, reinstalled, admin rights, forwarded ports, I even followed a manual patch guide. The patch version never changes in the notepad from 1.17 and I always get the same error 20619. This is insane to me that a game can be so difficult to keep up to date. And to find out I will be charged soon for something I cant even play is even more evil than the money I currently wasted on purchasing a coaster.

    Can someone please assist?

There is probably some other security software interfering. Try getting the patch from somewhere else... like from another PC.

The only security software I ever had was security essentials, but i did uninstall that. The only other software I could have would be anything that would come with windows 7 ultimate by default. I do not have an alternate pc to download the patch from. The files seem to be downloaded. All the way yup to 10.27 but the version never changes from 1.17.

    Any other suggestions?

Is the version file write-protected? No file in the ffxiv folder should be.

I don't have a solution for you, but just to let you know, you will NOT be charged for anything once subscriptions start unless you agree to be charged. Once they start charging, any current subscription to the game will be deactivated, and you'll have to go into your account management and reactivate the subscription again for FFXIV in order to play. Yoshida didn't want anyone getting any surprise charges for a game they didn't want to pay for.

Subarug, you said you tried reinstalling the game and the version never changes from 1.17?
Have you tried downloading the patches online and manually patching them into the patch folder for FFXIV?

(System specs please. I don't believe it's a hardware issue, but it never hurts to list what you have.) =)

    *EDIT*

In folder 48eca647, verify that you have vercheck.dat, then under metainfo check to see if you have these files present:

    (Sorted by Name)
    D2010.09.19.0000
    D2010.10.07.0001

You may also want to check this folder: 2d2a390f > metainfo, and see if you have D2010.09.18.0000

I believe this is the "version updater's" patch file.

    ...
I just had a thought.... Is it crashing when the updater is red or blue?

Ill have to check all those folders tomorrow. I followed the manual patch install guide and downloaded the requested 10 files. The patcher seems to find them and after it gets to 10/10 the blue screen goes away and goes to the gray updater.....this is where is fails each time.
