Pro Tip: Selling Stacks of Mats (TL;DR, x99 is Bad)

Trying to sell mats to earn money? Lower you stack quantities. You can price mats at a higher tier and make more profit if you'd split your stacks from say, x99, to x15-20.

Some of this post is out of frustration. On Gilgamesh, the only things on the MB are x99 stacks of fleece. I'm not buying, most won't either.

    Agreed.
I'll buy mats that cost more but are stacked smaller because they're cheaper then buying x99 of them. >w>

You know you could buy a full stack and then just resell those you don't want in smaller stacks. I would suspect if you check past sales you'll find they are in fact selling at stacks of 99.

I usually split my stacks to 10's, seems to sell a lot better. And well, I'd prefer to see those myself as well. When I'd need something in small amounts and only see large stacks.. I simply wait until somebody lists more in smaller amounts and buy those.

Like let's say those glamour prisms, I usually only need 1 - it's annoying when they are listed in stacks of 5, I'm not going to buy them unless I want it NOW.

It is one solution, yes. But once you start to be more attuned to crafting, your retainer space (for selling) is limited to top-priced, highest margin items. You don't want to waste selling space to off-load x15 fleeces for 300 a pop.

EDIT: If you're looking for a way to make gil quickly and don't have your Books, buy stacks, split, profit.

Oh I know how to make gil. I load my 5 retainers daily with loads of stuff and they sell most of it. I don't sell stacks of a lot of what i sell because they are legendary mats and most won't buy full stacks of that. My stacks are usually 10 or 15 but those cost enough. On the other hand I know where you're coming from but when that happens and I can't find a short stack I'll simply buy a full one and resell what I don't need.

Sorry, last post was misleading. The 'edit' was for people who stumbled on this thread, not you specifically. My bad.

I have no issue selling my materials at high profit prices in full stacks of 99, and like you as a material seller I need to make full use of the space my retainers offer so splitting something like fleece stacks to 10-15 at 300 a pop means I have to camp the retainer bell constantly replenishing since my entire retainer would be filled after 200-300 units instead of that only taking up 2-3 spots and having 17-18 spots for other things. It also means I can not be out there collecting more mats as I need to constntly replenish pointlessly. As such I will not be cutting my stack size as they are selling just fine

I'd say just be cognoscente of buyer's habits and the purpose of the materials you're selling. Sometimes it doesn't make sense to sell some materials in max stacks because the item you're selling isn't used that widely thus the buyer likely only need 20 of a certain item. You run the risk of people reselling what they don't need at lower prices and undercutting your goods.

However, there are things people use so widely they might need several stacks of 99. All in all, I think it just depends.

Stacks of things like coke, hardened sap, tawny latex, potash, etc. are fine at x99 due to recipes using x9 of them at a time. Fleece, no.

(Side note, you can get most things I listed from the GC).
