I see your point i guess that does work out.It could still easily work well in a linkshell, you could still build a strong LS, normal groups might not be good enough to win the fight or claim a mob what ever it may be.
In a linkshell you need a strong group and you could still even decide what you think people should role and what gear they should earn it's just everyone would have an equal share and everyone in the Linkshell could grow at the same pace together as a team. I don't really see how a linkshell couldn't still work together considering everything will still require a good capable group of people in order to win and earn coins or points.
I know for a fact this system works, Rift has this system and it is in my opinion the best system.

This is NOT ffxi, your NOT dealing with the same team, get that thru your head.
...and IMO, everything (every loot) dropping from creature mobs should be ingredients and stuff like that. If it isnt some sort of intelligent being, how the hell can a mole, an antlion or even a drake going to drop a sword or a pair of boots?? XD
(unless you gutt it open because it's big enough to eat someone who fought it before you and lost).
Special loot consist of ingredents for crafters to make high quality gear and weapons. Look again at the FFXIV logo, the illustration of every class revolving around laborers and crafters. Without them there wouldn't be any fighters or mages.

Like this post if instead of currently, you want Ifrit to drop loot as "Ifrit horn" that you could exchange into any kind of Ifrit weapon instead.

I think this makes the most sense on a number of levels. It doesn't make much sense that Ifrit's chest would contain so many items made out of his horns right after you defeat him. Makes more sense for a crafter to give them out.
Well my LS usually decides internally who gets what before we get it. Besides it doesnt really matter. when we do stronghold we stick aroun untill everyone gets what they wanted.
the fun in random drop is .. that u dont know how many fight u need to do to get it, and about points its will kill the game, because i used to play wow .. they got most of good items by points earn from bosses .. and make u less like to help people or do it again because u had enough point already
Currency every time, yes it does get a little repetitive but its so much much better when you can buy the item you "actually" want and not some random piece of crap you will never use.
That being said they need to make U/U gear worth a damn before I even care.
You didn't play the same WoW I did, or are you talking about dungeon gear ?because i used to play wow .. they got most of good items by points earn from bosses
The best gear in WoW was from 25 man raids which dropped from bosses.
