What is your preference for a player to get a commendation?

During my time in FF14, I have had quite a few occasions where I'm conflicted as to who to give that 1 commendation too, like in my last df roulette, I had a Sch dpsing, Ninja goading other pcs also providing shadewalker on boss pulls and the Bard doing foes for the ninja and sch. To say it was quite a fast run is understatement, long story short, I was conflicted as to who to give the commendation too, I gave it to the sch in the end.

As a tank, I get a commendation for most of the dfs I'm in, as a healer some of the time and as a dps infrequently. Under normal circumstances my preference for who deserves a commendation is as follows, I priorities any new pcs, then healer/tank then the dps. I find it interesting, how there is a dichotomy when it comes to commendations depending on the role played at the time.

So my question is, do you have a preference as to who to give that 1 commendation out to, and have you ever been in a dilemma as to who to give it too?

I always give 1 to healer that does DPS. Even if they throw just 1 Aero.

I tend to give it to those I feel best earned it if multiple players seem to have earned it then if one actually said hello and thanks in the run they will probably get it

Default DPS every time. The DPS would have to be incredibly bad or a tank/healer would have to blow my mind for it to change. I don't see this that much. I get as many on dps as I do on tanks and heals. lost count the number of times ive come out of an expert or someothing with all 3 commendations on my ninja.

as for giving them out. I don't really have preferences it's just little things I see along the way through a piece of content. if I see another ninja using single target attacks while I'm dropping doton and deathblossoming a pack of 6+ mobs thenunlikely to commend that ninja. if I see a brd that never sings foe then again unlikely to get commended. if I see tanks who just stand in the centre of a pack of mobs and take a beating then no commendation.

as a tank I tend to position mobs so all there aoes overlap and conals all go the same direction. as a dps I hate seeing half dozen conals in all directions making that small step do dodge a mad dash to get out of... so if the tank places mobs well so I need only take 1 step to evade all those aoes i'm quite happy.

there's a lot that influences who I give commendations to.

personally though I don't put much weight behind them. couldn't tell you my total I don't track it. but I find sometimes I can be in a really bad party as a scholar where everyone is taking so much damage that i'm really struggling for mp. the other healers dead so are a couple of dps cos they ate a mega cleave. everyone is getting hit by everything they can possibly get hit by and somehow miraculously I manage to keep the rest of the group alive and win the fight with absolutely no mp left. and then I get no commendations at all. despite pulling off a proverbial miracle.

then however I can get my fairy enter content toss up some dots. and then send a text to a friend goof around in ls/fc chat boss dead move on to next one throw up dots goof off some more. and then exit with a half dozen commends at the end of the raid. wtf????

I give it to the person I liked the most.

+ for doing their job well
+ for going far beyond their job
+ + just giving it to the one who hasn't left the instance by the time I type out my goodbyes
+ + + for making me smile or laugh or just enjoy the run with their talk

- for not saying hello/goodbye
- - failing at anything I consider easy
- - - for having a name I dislike
- - - for wearing a glamour I dislike

Of course I don't make a list of + and - for any person I ever play with, it's more of a subconcious thing.
But yeah, I don't care how well someone played, if I don't like their name or think their glamour is slutty, I'm not giving them a comm.
At the same time, if someone is a joy to be with, I don't mind fails that much and will probably still give that person the commendation

I have literally only made 2 posts about appearences in all of my forum life
(not counting the "oh wow, so pretty" in glamour threads)
One in the "fat characters" thread and one here. I get the feeling you don't read a lot of my posts if that is all you remember...

But yes, I think a commendation is meant to show who we apprechiated the most in the party.
Some may weigh it very high to get through the dungeon as fast as possible, but I think in a game that is so bent on making us run the same thing over and over again,
the most important thing is to make a run enjoyable and different from the last.
Just killing mobs fast does not do that. Having fun conversations or enjoying to look at someone's pretty glamour does, though.

Wear the best looking glamour and your probably going to get a commendation regardless of your performance.... Some people take glamour being the true endgame way to seriously.

I don't give people a commendation FOR their glamour, it just might be a reason to NOT give them one

+ are reasons to give someone commendations (no glamour-related arguments there, if you haven't noticed ),
- are reasons to not give them commendations (glamour-related arguments are a thing there, because I'm sick and tired of scantily-clad catgirls posing at the exit begging for comms with their only argument being "I'm sexy" -.-)
